Meet Ameriz Cortez, Logistics Intern ??

What is your role and general responsibilities at MAT? How does this internship align with your career goals?

My role at MAT involves assisting the outbound coordinators, giving them more time to focus on account-related work and other responsibilities. I mostly manage Amazon orders, including shipments, carton counts, and paperwork for each load.

This internship aligns with my career goals by helping me develop social skills, time management, software usage abilities, understanding the distribution center process and the different roles involved, and enhancing overall workplace skills.

Do you have advice to share with someone who is pursuing a similar internship or career path?

Some advice I would share is to take the opportunities that come your way. Even if they aren't perfect, they can teach you something valuable about work or life. Internships are great if approached with professionalism and determination. Without passion and drive, they won't be beneficial.

Lastly, create a good work environment for yourself and be willing to take on tasks and learn new things, even if you're unsure. When faced with similar tasks in the future, your experience will be useful in solving new problems.

Do you have a hobby, sport, or passion outside the workplace? Is there something you’ve learned through this activity that has shaped your work ethic or philosophy in some way?

I have played softball most of my life and now coach a team. This experience has made me comfortable taking initiatives at work and improving my communication and social skills. It has also taught me the importance of team building and mutual respect.

Do you have a favorite quote, author, book, poem, etc.—something that well represents your work ethic or ideologies?

During the Long Grove Intern Trip, Financial Planning and Analysis Director Daniel Allard mentioned "intellectual curiosity" as a key trait he seeks in candidates. This phrase resonates with my drive to learn and my passion for knowledge.

Meet Aidan O’Flaherty, Accounting/Finance Intern ??

What is your role and general responsibilities at MAT?

I am an intern on the corporate accounting team at MAT Holdings' headquarters. My responsibilities constantly change to help me gain experience in various accounting functions. This summer, I have reconciled accounts, prepared journal entries and invoices, and learned to extract data from SAP.

What are you studying in school and how does this internship align with your career goals?

At Buena Vista University, I am studying Accounting and Business Management. This internship aligns with my career goals because I am learning about the specific responsibilities of accounting departments and how accounting fits into the overall picture of the entire company.

What is your favorite part about interning at MAT?

My favorite thing about interning at MAT is the culture. Company picnics and intern outings give everyone a chance to interact outside of work and build stronger connections. While work is important, balance is also something that MAT values.

Do you have a favorite quote, author, book, poem, etc.—something that well represents your work ethic or ideologies?

A belief of mine that represents my work ideologies is that managers and leaders have people that work with them, not for them. I believe people that work this way have better connections with their team, they’re more liked by their peers, and the team is often more successful.

Meet Mucteba Yazici, Accounting/Finance Intern ??

What is your role and general responsibilities at MAT?

I am in the Financial Planning & Analysis department. My main responsibility is assisting with the preparation of the 2025 budget and other financial projects as needed.

What are you studying in school and how does this internship align with your career goals?

My current major in school is Finance, and this internship aligns with my careers goals by providing me with practical experience in the finance field. It allows me to apply theoretical knowledge I learned in school to real-world scenarios. It allows me to develop my analytical skills, use of financial tools, and gain insights into the finance industry.

What is a goal or passion that you are working towards? How do you see this internship helping you achieve it?

My goal is to become a financial analyst with strong capabilities in planning and analysis. This internship is instrumental in allowing me to achieve this goal. This internship provides me with hands-on experience in analyzing financial data, advanced financial modeling, and data interpretation. Furthermore, the mentorship and professional environment at MAT equips me with the knowledge and confidence needed to excel in the finance field
