Meet our Greater Manchester Green Shoots Grantees

Meet our Greater Manchester Green Shoots Grantees

Green Shoots is our vision for a new collaborative hub in the North West. Launched this autumn, we brought together funders, businesses and social entrepreneurs across Greater Manchester to drive social change from the grassroots.?

We’re welcoming three new exceptional projects into our community of grantees. These small charities and social enterprises are advocating for refugees, developing equine therapeutic programmes, and setting the standard for culturally competent mental health services.?

At The Fore, we believe in a society that is better connected. We know that real change happens when people with the best ideas are plugged into the right networks and resources. It’s our mission to matchmake innovative solutions, shaped by personal experience, with a community of?funders and business experts.??

“There’s no problem in the world that hasn’t been solved by someone, somewhere, it’s just whether that person has the right support around them to take that solution to the world. We’ve all got something to give, so let’s support them.”– Mary Rose Gunn, CEO of The Fore

There are over 17,000 charities in Greater Manchester and they’re no strangers to coming together to make change possible. Over 20 years ago, three separate refugee support organisations joined forces to set up Manchester Refugee Support Network (MRSN).?

They knew that vulnerable refugees and asylum seekers experienced serious isolation, and?what they really needed was a community around them. Over the past two decades, MRSN have nurtured over 21 refugee community organisations whose support transforms the lives of their members. No longer alone, they are able to lead safer lives as confident, knowledgeable citizens.??

The fourth?in our series of ongoing regional funds, we’re excited to be bringing our charity driven?approach to the North West.?Following local outreach and an assessment process led by our “Strategic Applicant Consultants“, five organisations were selected for our funding panels.?

Our panels are made?up of a lively mixture of business partners, donors and past grantee, who carefully assessed each idea.?Grants and skills support were awarded on how?transformational an impact they would have on each organisation.??

We’re excited to be investing in their growth. Meet the visionary organisations working towards a fairer, more just, and more connected Greater Manchester.?

Stable Lives supports adults and young people experiencing serious mental health challenges, through nature and equine therapy. Set in an area of outstanding natural beauty, the stables are a calm safe haven.

The horses at Stable Lives have been rehabilitated themselves, after experiencing trauma and abuse. Enjoying each other's company, their courses and respite days help build confidence and self-worth for the horses, and for the children and adults who visit.

Demand for Stable Lives' services is exceptionally high. The Fore’s grant will help to grow their work into a national service.

MRSN is an award-winning charity that work to empower people from refugee, asylum seeker, and migrant backgrounds.

Greater Manchester is home to more than 60,000 refugees and 9,000 asylum seekers, including 2,000 currently living in hotels. For over 27 years, MRSN has championed these communities and helped them to build safe, happy and productive lives.

The Fore are funding the opening of their new café, staffed by volunteers and trainees from the charity’s network. This will enable MRSN’s to connect more people, and create a safe, physical space for different communities to come together.
