Two Sides: communicating the sustainability of paper

Burgo is a founding member of Two Sides, the international communications project launched in 2008 to provide accurate and documented information on the sustainability of paper and print. It involves representatives from forestry companies, pulp and paper manufacturers, distributors, ink and chemical additive manufacturers, printing and finishing operators, publishers, paper envelope and packaging manufacturers, and postal operators.

Through the "Love Paper" campaign, Two Sides provides information on the environmental value of paper and print, dispelling false perceptions and misconceptions surrounding paper, printing, and paper packaging to restore an accurate perception of their sustainability.

Together for Sustainable Packaging?

Several independent studies show that replacing recyclable packaging from renewable sources with reusable plastic packaging increases emissions, water use, and plastic waste instead of reducing them. Together for Sustainable Packaging is a multi-sector alliance of companies and associations, created to promote a truly sustainable approach to the EU’s Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) by inviting EU decision-makers to evaluate the data and reflect on the best way forward to promote packaging that is truly sustainable and safe for the environment and the people.

CEPI: a commitment towards climate neutrality

Europe's transition to climate neutrality by 2050 places a great deal of responsibility on the paper industry. since Burgo Group's approach is one of full dedication to eco-sustainability, the company shares the commitment embraced by CEPI (Confederation of European Paper Industries), a non-profit organisation that takes long-term strategic perspectives on the issues affecting the industry in the domains of Environment and Safety, Climate Change and Energy, Forest and Recycling.?

EPPA: Advancing Sustainable Packaging for a Greener Future

By the end of 2022, Burgo Group became an active member of the European Paper Packaging Alliance (EPPA). EPPA is an association dedicated to promoting fiber-based packaging solutions for food and foodservice applications, commonly referred to as a Food Service Board. A primary focus of EPPA is to identify practical measures that enhance recycling rates and minimize carbon emissions associated with packaging.

EPPA also places great importance on collaborating with policymakers in Europe to develop evidence-based policies, particularly in response to recent Directives like the Single Use Plastic Directive and upcoming Regulations such as the Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation.

Fiber-based solutions offer significant environmental benefits over their 100% plastic counterparts and on average, they can replace more than 90% of plastic content in packaging.?
