Meet our Directors – Carlie Rouse
Describe your career path at BHCR.
I started as a bartender/cocktail server in 2009. I had a friend who knew one of the casino’s IT employees would soon be leaving for college. He pushed me to apply; seriously, I never heard the end of it from him! The IT Director took a chance on me with the caveat that I finished my IT degree. I started working as the night shift PC tech in 2010. I take every opportunity to learn about casino IT which has allowed me to gradually advance into the IT Director role.
What made you decide to work at the casino?
I thought it would be a fun, exciting environment where I’d be able to discover new talents. I attended our first career fair before construction was complete (I had bright pink rockstar hair at the time), and the F&B director pulled me from the crowd and told me he wanted me to join the team. Sadly, I had to change my pink hair shortly after!?
What is the best career advice you have received?
“Stop worrying so much!” - my dad.?
What’s your favorite part of your job?
Each day brings a new set of challenges and opportunities to learn.?
Share a book or podcast recommendation that has significantly impacted your career.
I’m a podcast addict! I love hearing about other people’s experiences and outlook on life. I listen to many faith-based podcasts like Word on Fire by Bishop Robert Barron. His wisdom helps me feel grounded when I’m feeling overwhelmed or insecure.?
If you could switch roles with any Team Member for a day, who would it be and why?
Jess Hertel, our F&B Director. I’ll always have a soft spot for F&B since that’s where I started. Plus, getting to taste test the new desserts would be a big perk!
What’s a hobby or interest of yours that people might be surprised to learn about?
I’m an avid NASCAR fan. I got into it during COVID when travel and entertainment options were limited. I’ve been following ever since and can’t wait to go to my first race in September!
Share a favorite leadership quote or mantra.
“Comparison is the thief of joy." This is not so much a leadership-specific mantra as it is a mantra I apply both professionally and in my personal life. Everyone’s path is different; when we obsess over what someone else has, we limit our own potential and overlook our blessings.
