In today’s interview, we are talking to Laurin Kühn.
Hi Laurin, lovely to see you! Thank you for taking the time to talk to us.
Hello, I’m happy to be here.
Let′s start with the basics. What is your role at Orbit?
I joined Orbit in September 2023 as a tax advisor. I am focusing on all tax related tasks arising in the world of funds. Due to my general tax focus, I am working with our GP-advisory team as well as with our LP-advisory team.
And where are you from? What was it like to grow up there?
I am from Aachen, a beautiful city with approximately 250,000 residents. Growing up there was great for me. It is not a village where everyone knows each other, so you constantly encounter new faces and discover new places. On the other hand, as you walk through Aachen, you will always run into familiar people. At times, Aachen felt like a big city and at other times it had the charm of a close-knit village. This blend made growing up in Aachen truly special for me.
Sounds similar to one single Kietz in Berlin. Tell me, what was your childhood dream job or career?
During my childhood, my dream job changed several times. First and foremost, I want to mention my early wish to become a police officer to help those who need help – being the “Freund und Helfer.” A little later, like numerous young boys, I wished to become a professional soccer player. However, my talent was only enough for a hobby player. The dream to become a professional soccer player faded away, the passion for soccer remains.

The passion for football brings me to the concept of teamwork. What is one thing that creates a successful team in your opinion?
One thing that creates a successful team is when diverse people, united by a common goal, work together in a spirit of trust. Diversity of characters, cultural backgrounds, experiences, professional focus, skills and many more factors among the team members give the team a broad basis for developing ideas and finding the best solutions. A spirit of trust allows each team member to come up with any idea and such idea will be discussed in an open-minded and constructive manner. Finally, a common goal ensures that each team member is committed to working towards this common goal.
Who is someone you admire professionally and why?
There are many people who are admirable. Professionally, I admire people who are smart, fully committed to their goals and have the courage to stand up for these goals even if it means taking risks. However, it is not all about the aforementioned characteristics and being professionally successful. Furthermore, to be an admirable person it is important that such person is likeable in its personal characteristics.
What is one thing that you’re excited about in your industry?
One thing that excites me about my industry is the dynamic and evolving nature of both the tax law and funds industry. These fields are constantly progressing, and I am particularly enthusiastic about how they influence each other. The fund industry must stay abreast of changes in tax law, while those in tax law, including legislators and practitioners, need to understand and integrate the latest economic trends, especially within the fund sector. This ongoing interaction and adaptation make the future of both industries incredibly promising and engaging.
Could you give some advice to a young person who is just starting their career?
Try yourself out and find a career path you are passionate about. With a professional passion you will make your way, be successful and have fun while working on your career path.
Thank you for making the time!
Thanks to you, it was a pleasure.
