Meet our ATP LUX Tennis Pro Julien

Could you kindly provide insight into your background as a professional in tennis both as an athlete and coach?

I have been playing tennis since I was three years old. As a junior player, I ranked among the top 10 in France in my age group until I turned 12. At 17, I scored a big win against an opponent who was ranked 260 on the ATP.

After high school, I played college tennis for five years, reaching the top 80 in NCAA Division 1 in singles and top 40 in doubles. During this time, I defeated top college players and even some professionals ranked within the top 800 on the ATP.

Later on, I entered the professional circuit, competing in Futures tournaments where I reached the quarterfinals multiple times and earned ATP points in doubles matches.

Alongside my playing career, I've also been coaching tennis for over three years, mainly in the USA and France. I've worked with players of all levels, from competitive juniors to complete beginners, helping them improve their skills and reach their potential.

How has your coaching experience evolved since becoming a part of the LUX Tennis team?

As a coach, I've certainly refined my versatility by working with guests of all ages and skill levels, each with unique objectives for their lessons. Some simply want to enjoy hitting balls, unwind, and have a good time. Others are more competitive, seeking to play points or even a full set. The range of playing abilities and goals varies greatly from one guest to another, which keeps me constantly engaged and adaptable.

What unique enhancements do you bring to elevate the tennis experience for our guests?

When coaching our guests, particularly beginners or those at lower skill levels, I focus heavily on the technical aspects of the game. For complete beginners, my aim is to establish a solid foundation during our lessons. Not only do I want them to enjoy the session and improve their shot accuracy by the end of the hour, but I also strive to equip them with the skills to continue playing independently and foster a passion for tennis. Tennis can be daunting for newcomers, so I make it my mission to alleviate any intimidation they may feel. I take a pedagogical approach to teaching tennis, aiming to simplify the learning process for our guests.

For more advanced and competitive players, I take the opportunity to push them further, both tactically and physically. This might involve engaging in point play to implement the techniques we practiced during drills or basket work.

In your view, what does LUX Tennis contribute to our partner resorts that distinguishes them from the rest?

Can you elaborate on how you integrate tennis lessons into the overall experience for hotel guests?

I primarily engage with guests through weekly complimentary clinics, one tailored for kids and another for adults. These clinics serve as an introduction for guests to get to know me and provide an initial impression of my coaching style. It's an opportunity for them to understand what they can expect when booking a session with me. Additionally, I'm regularly present around the courts while guests are playing, offering assistance or tips as needed.

How would you describe the distinctive elements of your coaching style that set you apart from other coaches?

I would characterize my coaching approach as patient, educational, motivational, and detail-oriented.
