New York Power Authority
NYPA is the nation's largest state power organization, serving government, not-for-profit, and business customers.
In this two-for-one post, we focus on Senior Manager IT Project Delivery Gethsemaine "Jess" Maclang and Lead Full Stack Developer John Sunkavalli .
????Introduce yourselves! How/when did you start working in IT?
John Sunkavalli: I'm currently the Lead Full Stack Engineer on the Application Development team. I started at NYPA in 2009. My IT career began in 2004 and I have worked at IBM, Goldman Sachs, and Pfizer prior to joining NYPA.
Jess Maclang: I am the Senior Manager of IT Project Delivery, and I started working in IT when I began at NYPA in 2016.
????Give us a little more background on applications you have worked on and other work you have done.

Jess: I started at NYPA as a contract worker in 2016, coming in as an IT Training Specialist and hired as a full-time employee in 2017 as a Business Analyst.
Prior to that I worked in financial services as a Senior Manager for Global Client Operations at GAIN Capital, now StoneX. There, I was involved in many aspects of the business – training, customer service, compliance and project management.
????You’re working on a SharePoint migration at the moment; how did your prior work prepare you for this?
John: My work began on SharePoint 2003 and I participated in many successful migrations. I specialized in developing reusable customization solutions for Goldman Sachs, Pfizer, IBM, and more across all versions of SharePoint (SP 2003, SP 2007, SP 2010, SP 2016, SPO). At NYPA, I have been responsible for three SharePoint migrations to date.
Jess: I started working with SharePoint back in 2006 when I was the Training Specialist at GAIN and I needed a place to store all training and collateral for the global enterprise. I created SharePoint pages for training so that employees could access information more easily. At NYPA, I was brought back onto the SharePoint migration project last year, having taken a hiatus after securing the vendor contract.?
