Meet Nong Bew. Who learned how to walk and talk at TCDF!

"TCDF is changing lives. One at a time!"

Thai Child Development Foundation (TCDF) helps underprivileged children and children with special needs in Thailand. We support them in a sustainable way through customized programs with personal mentors. This can be focused on medical care, education, but also developing daily living skills. The aim is always to provide a child the best chance to grow, learn and become his or her best self! Independent and able to live and work in their own villages and communities.

Nong Bew is born with physical movement disabilities and has anemia. Nong Bew was one of the lucky children in rural Thailand as he lives only about 30 km. from TCDF's Special School for students with Special needs. TCDF's center is close to Ranong in the south from where all programs (now nationwide!) are coordinated. He was the first TCDF child who actually learned how to walk under the care of our team of local women whom we trained to teach the children.

Nong Bew is under the care of TCDF since 2 and a half years old. He has Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) and could walk on his own. He also had a problem with speaking, and at two the difference with his peers started to show. Nong Bew has since then continued to improve, step by step. Getting better and better after he got several treatments and physical therapy. He started walking when he was four and a half! His education at the TCDF School for Students with Special needs continued and in 2016 he was able to be placed back to his village school! Here he now goes to school and plays with friends like all the other children in his village. Nong Bew is currently studying in Grade 3. He is able to take care of himself, continue his studies, able to do activities, and play with others in the school. He is still 3 years behind due to his physical and communication. He is using hearing aids and TCDF continues to provide access to specialized health care and a customized education program.
