??Meet Nicole (Nikki)

??Tell us about your career at Mark’s.

My Career at Mark’s began in 2008 when I started working in Calgary, Alberta, as a seasonal temporary hire. Within a year with Mark’s I was promoted to Manager on Duty (MOD), and then when I moved to Regina, Saskatchewan, I was promoted to be the Back of House Lead. After 2 years here, I moved to Store 04 Weyburn, Saskatchewan where I put my 5 year plan into place of wanting to manage my own store. First, I got the opportunity to be a Store Operations Manager (SOM) for 7 years and then I became the Store General Manager (SGM) at Store 326 Estevan, Saskatchewan.

Estevan allowed me the opportunity to experience having my own team and creating a culture of people who were dedicated and had the same drive as I did. Navigating through a pandemic was difficult with stores being closed and checks being completed daily. Then, there was an interim SGM position available at Store 381 back in Regina. This opportunity was the chance to run a bigger store that I had not experienced before as a manager. In the Fall of 2021, I took on this opportunity, and have since made this store my home and I couldn’t be happier.

??How do you contribute to Making Life in Canada better?

Each Mark's employee contributes to making life in Canada better. We take pride and appreciation in the products and innovations we sell. From the newcomer to Canada, who needs a winter jacket and Ice FX boots for that –30 weather, or for the farmer who needs tick and mosquito repellent clothing for their days in the field.

The innovations that Mark’s have brought to life over the last 15 years allow a better selection for everyone who calls Canada home or anyone who is just here for a visit.

?? What is it about Mark’s that excites you to come to work each day?

That’s a given, it would have to be my team, and my peers. I currently have thirty-two staff and I know every single one of them! I connect with them daily and touch base with them to understand how things are going, with work and personal. Building a family culture is super important when it comes to a team atmosphere. Also, the team that I call my family is well diverse, with different cultures, beliefs, and nationalities. When interviewing new staff, I sometimes get asked “Why Mark’s? What makes you want to work here for so long?”, and my answer is always:

"I never feel like just a number with Mark’s."

At Mark's you are recognized, you are encouraged and you are supported.

?? What do you love most about being a Store General Manager?

I get to encourage and mentor future leaders and generations; all while, building onto our core values within our team and our store atmosphere. At Mark's, I have created great relationships, not only with staff that I have worked with in prior years but with customers as well. I enjoy the challenges that this position presents to me, such as new product knowledge, and/or innovations.

The atmosphere and the people are what make me want to walk through those doors each day.
