Meet Morgan Welch
On behalf of the marketing team, we are beyond excited to present this week’s Employee Spotlight: Morgan Buckley Welch .?
If you didn’t see in our recent press release, Morgan joined our team in mid-November as the VP of Marketing and has already dove in to help bolster Pathlabs' growth as a brand.?
As she settles into her new role, let’s learn more about her:
What was your original career prospect when growing up? What are you doing now at Pathlabs??
Growing up, I always thought I wanted to be in finance. I loved math classes and the concept of having a black-and-white answer to a problem. However, just because you love something doesn’t mean you are good at it - LOL! Learned that one the hard way.
Fast forward to college and attempting to double major in accounting and finance, I quickly realized that math just wasn’t my thing. I took a consumer marketing class on a whim and instantly fell in love with the concept of marketing. Not everything had to be black and white. And what makes one person tick might not make the next tick. Needs, wants, demands, and, most importantly, buying behaviors vary from person to person, and the psychology behind marketing fascinated me. I was instantly hooked.?
I’ve been in the field for over 15 years and have dabbled in a handful of roles. I started my career in marketing research and then progressed into in-house marketing for corporations, building upon their brands and fostering growth. That has become my sweet spot, and I absolutely love it.?
As VP of Marketing for Pathlabs, I am pumped to contribute to the existing momentum of our brand by defining a voice for us in the marketplace and driving growth. It’s going to be a wild ride, and I cannot wait to work alongside all of you!
Where are you working from (physical location-wise)?
Cowtown! (I.e., Fort Worth, Texas) I have been here since 2007, but I was originally born and raised in Houston, Texas.?
What is the one activity that you are obsessed with? Why are you obsessed??
As much as I love social interaction, I recharge by myself. As a mother to toddler twin boys, that alone time is few and far between. So if you catch me late at night, post-bedtime routine, you can find me reading a good old-fashioned YA novel. It’s my moment to let go, get lost in something that has zero relevance to anything in my life, and relax. That and Bravo are my guilty pleasures. Does it progress me in life? No. Does it give me a hot second to decompress and, in turn, make me a better mom, co-worker, and wife the next day? Yes. No shame in that game!!?
(P.S. If you love Bravo as much as I do, hit me! We can talk about all the things.)
What societal or career expectations do you struggle with?
This might be only a Southern societal expectation - but mine, hands down, is the expectation of being a stay-at-home mom. I love to work. I also love my family. And those two things can co-exist. It took me a long time to realize and be okay with that.?
Having a moment away solely dedicated to something I am passionate about makes me a better mom to my kids, wife to my husband, and friend to my community. Working energizes me and in turn, allows me to be more intentional with the time I do get to spend with my core people.
Was there anything that you ever did that made you be like, “Dang, I am frickin awesome”?
Growing my family. This was not an easy road for us. In fact, it was a five-year journey of many ups and downs. And a lot of loss. However, through heartbreak came perseverance. I learned a lot about myself during this journey and organically developed a wonderful community of fellow infertility warriors. With an unexplained fertility diagnosis for four of the five years, I made it my mission to immerse myself in all things fertility-related to try to uncover any inkling of hope that would help us grow our family.?
I’ve tried everything under the sun to make these dreams a reality - from sole beet juice diets to acupuncture, holistic and functional medicine approaches to invasive and controversial IVF protocols that included immunosuppressant drugs - you name it, I’ve probably tried it. And by the grace of God, my husband and I welcomed twin boys on Christmas Day 2021! Quite the miracle and something that I will forever be proud of.?
For anyone who may be struggling growing their family, know that I am here as a resource and support system!?
What is your favorite Pathlabs value (Unforgettable Service, Own It, Master the Craft. People First)?
Oh, man. This is a tough one because all four of Pathlabs’ values are rooted in so much greatness, both internally for our employees and externally for our clients and partners. If I had to narrow it down to one, it would likely be People First. I firmly believe that you are only as good as the people you surround yourself with daily.
Success is not solely dependent on one person but instead on the collective abilities and contributions of the entire team. When you put your people (whether they’re clients, employees, partners - you name it) above anything else, that is when true success is possible.
Why did you want or choose to work at Pathlabs??
I have worked for some great companies throughout my career, both from cultural and corporate growth perspectives. I have learned from some of the best of the best, and one might say that is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.?
Early in the interview process with Pathlabs, it was apparent to me that this was yet another unicorn. I would get to continue working with some of the smartest in the room and surround myself with just really great, down-to-earth individuals. The team here at Pathlabs is eager to continue making waves in this industry, and opportunities like this are few and far between. It was a no-brainer for me, and I am so excited to be here!
Morgan, we are thrilled to welcome you to our team! Your arrival brings great enthusiasm, and we eagerly anticipate the advancements our marketing team will achieve with your guidance. Welcome aboard!
