Meet MOIA

Join us on a MOIA ride with Yannick.?

We will introduce you to the people behind MOIA and give them the opportunity to share insights about their role and their time at MOIA.?

Hi Yannick! Can you tell us more about how you are making an impact at MOIA, what led you to the chapter lead role you're in today and what is worth to know about yourself? ?

Hi! I joined MOIA in 2018 as a backend developer, so for the first 3 years my impact was mostly related to delivering the best possible software solution for our stakeholders. However, I always enjoyed working with people and love to connect people, so when a chapter lead position opened up in the 2nd half of 2021, both MOIA and I thought that it would be a good match if I took it. As a Chapter Lead, you will have a 50:50 role of people responsibilities and day-to-day work. What is expected of chapter leads is to have a high level of empathy and help talents grow by mentoring, coaching, regular 1:1s, peer counseling, continuous feedback and conflict resolution. They also contribute to shaping the tech org culture and hire new talents.??

What is important to you in your new role as a chapter lead??

It’s important for me to create an environment in which people experience trust and safety, so they can share freely. I try to make it clear that it’s okay to make mistakes and try to support by asking a lot of questions or providing some guidance, whichever is needed in the situation.?

How does MOIA support you in growing into this role?? ?

MOIA provided me with an internal onboarding, labor law training and people management trainings. The labor law training is obviously more of a necessity, although the lawyer made the topic as entertaining as possible, but the people management training helps us in several ways: It makes us think about the leaders we want to be and how to get there, but also provides us with theory, tools and methods. What also really, really helps is the constant exchange with other people managers at MOIA, like “how would you handle this or that?”?

What’s your must-read, watch or listen for someone working closely with people? ?

I’m not sure if there is a must-anything, but I found it inspiring to listen to successful leaders like Kim Scott, Brené Brown or Reed Hastings. On a side note I found out that it’s much easier for me to consume non-fictional books as audio books.??

How do you move? What is your favorite mobility option? ?

I use a lot of different mobility options: public transport, e-scooter, bicycle, walking, MOIA or even borrow a car if necessary. I choose the option depending on the situation (i.e. distance to destination, weather, laziness, etc.) and I think it’s great to be able to choose from such a mobility variety freely and I believe it’s what it takes for people not to be tempted wanting to own their own private vehicle.? ?
