Meet MOIA

Join us on a MOIA ride with Sharmin.?

We will introduce you to the people behind MOIA and give them the opportunity to share insights about their role and their time at MOIA.?

Hi Sharmin! Can you tell us more about how you are making an impact at MOIA, what led you to the role you're in today and what is worth to know about yourself??

What?do you?like best?about?working?at MOIA???

For quite some time, I am making an effort in my life to live sustainably. It has become an important factor in many of my regular life decisions. This was the reason which drew me towards working at MOIA because I wanted to bring this value in my professional life. Therefore, it makes me very happy that I work at a company which adds a positive impact to the environment. Apart from the company’s mission, people at MOIA are highly passionate about it which sets the ball rolling. Additionally, the collaborative effort of every one involved here to make it a nice and a welcoming place to work by ensuring diversity, inclusion, and mental well-being is very impressive.??

What?was your?most?exciting/fun?moment?at MOIA??

We recently had a hackathon which was quite fun. We worked on a small project for two days. It was a learning-booster because some of us in the team were new to the technology and we provided a solution to enhance the everyday work of a developer?in the company. It was very well organised and I met new people which was great.??

How?does?your?day-to-day?at work?as?an iOS developer?look?like? ?

We are T-shaped teams, therefore I am a part of two teams - iOS chapter team and booking team (responsible for the whole feature). My typical work day is about coding, code review and meetings which is explained below:?

  1. In booking team, we are a group of iOS devs, android devs, UI/UX designers, agile coach, backend devs, quality tester, and PO. Usually, I start my day around 9:00 and take care of my current task, then attend a booking team daily meeting (a quick walk through our agile dashboard) before lunch. If we want to quickly pair with someone about an impediment or a topic, we take it outside the daily right after. Depending upon the requirement, we have a refinement meeting every week or every two weeks. We meet in a retro meeting once a month.?
  2. Every twice a week, all the iOS-Chapters also come together for an iOS daily meeting. We have iOS platform days (two days in a row) once a month to focus on improving our code base and work on specific iOS related topics. Every two weeks we meet for an iOS architecture meeting to maintain the architecture of our code and discuss improvements. We also have working groups to try out and stay updated with new topics like SwiftUI, async/await etc.??
  3. Wednesday is a meeting-free day so you can concentrate on work and coding. I find this very nice and really helps me focus and get a lot done.?
  4. Every other Friday, is a learning day after lunch so we can take that time off for our own learning which can be any topic that we choose ourself.???

How?do you?move? What?is?your?favourite?mobility?option????

Bike - usually in summer and sunny days, MOIA - I use it often when I am travelling to the airport, Hauptbahnhof (when I am traveling, I usually pre-book my MOIA in advance so I can just get off the train and head straight to my home) and late at night (safety first ??), and public transport. My favourite mobility option is always one of these, depending on the type of journey.??

What?should?we?know?about?you???

I come from a city named Lucknow in India. I like coding, traveling, making travel videos, painting and planting.??

How?did?you?make?it?into?tech????

I?had started to learn coding at a young age in school (3rd grade or so - sorry it's been a long time to remember the exact time ??) with LOGO programming language to move the turtle (a fancy name for a triangle in LOGO world) around in a terminal looking application (back in the days there were no pretty GUIs ??). Then moved on to learn BASIC programming which was a bit advanced with “if-then-else”, and later Java in school as well. Later, I studied bachelor in computer engineering in New Delhi in India and then moved to Munich, Germany for M.Sc. Informatics in 2017. So you can already figure it out that I like coding and tech a lot ??. It was not an easy journey to be honest and especially as a woman you have to fight against the stereotypes in your day-to-day life. Although, I have been fortunate to have a supporting family, and great mentors who have empowered me to follow my tech-dream. Therefore, for me, it is important that I always encourage young girls to not listen to the negative remarks of the society to hamper their ambitions and rather take it as a challenge and prove them wrong ??.
