Meet the Mentors – Tim and Patcee Powers
Cumorah Academy
We help European Young Adults improve their English, find a better job, start businesses and become leaders.
“Decisions, Dreams, and Limits”
“The sky is the limit.” Most of us grew up listening to this sentence. Maybe a parent encouraged their children to work hard to attain their goals. When someone says “The sky is the limit,” that person means there are no barriers for one to achieve their goal. That decision after decision, we’ll attain our objective. As a kid, it’s quite easy to believe our dreams have no limits. That our decisions will thoroughly lead where we plan. However, as we grow older, we start slowly losing that magic we had as a kid. The world’s challenges have this characteristic to immerse our dreams so they don’t see the light of day.
But Tim and Patcee Powers still have hope that the sky is the limit to pursuing our dreams. Patcee hopes all students who leave the campus have this feeling that anything is possible as long as they put their minds to it. “It’s sometimes just figuring out what that passion is and how you can channel that into your life goals and your vision,” says Patcee.
“We Love Young Adults”
Tim and Pat have always been enthusiastic about young adults. The Powers served as a missionary couple in two missions: London South and London Mission. This decision changed their lives. They are different missions, although in the same city. And Tim and Pat will serve another mission in the state of Montana. In all their missions, they focused on young single adults. After a meeting with Cumorah Academy’s founder, Patrick Sedivy, they gladly got involved in the program. “We love young adults and love being with them.” The couple taught Communication and Empathy to our students in the Leadership Course.
The couple grew up in California. Tim grew up in Oakland and Patcee in Burbank. Patcee graduated in Elementary Education from Brigham Young University (BYU). She worked in social services for years, focusing on child abuse. Tim was a veteran of the Vietnam War. After completing his military service, he returned home and went to the University of Montana on a swimming scholarship. He was BYU’s Head Swimming coach for thirty-seven years (from 1975 to 2012). Tim and Patcee met at college, where he learned and converted to the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The couple got married in the Salt Lake Temple. They have two children, nine grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren (and one is on the way!). With this extraordinary experience, the Powers came to transmit this knowledge to our students.

“The Most Important Decision on Earth”
As mentioned before, the Powers deeply love and respect young adults. In fact, their visit was utterly driven by their love for our students. And what lessons do the Powers hope our students will learn from them? “I want them to know that Jesus is the Christ. That He lives, that He knows each of them. That would be the number one thing,” confidently says Tim. Along with the knowledge that Christ is real and vivid, Patcee also shares her opinion of the most important decision they can make in their lives. You might be wondering: Career? Success? “I want the kids to look at us and see a happy marriage,” she joyfully says. “What has worked for Tim and me is that, over the years, we have been best friends. We have grown together and supported each other. I hope students know that the marriage choice is the most important decision you’ll make on Earth.”
Tim and Patcee’s vision is utterly aligned with Cumorah Academy’s values. They want our students to become successful in their careers. Tim and Pat have far more experience in visualizing what matters most. And they said having a testimony of Christ and a happy marriage are decisions that will impact students’ lives now and forever.
