Portillo’s is a growing brand, and it’s important to us that our team members grow with us. That means we arm them with the skills and knowledge to foster their growth and have practices in place to help them develop in their careers. Please take a moment to read about Marlon’s growth and what he’s learned along the way as he progressed from working as a General Manager to a Market Manager!

How long have you been with Portillo’s and what made you come work for us?

Wow! I can’t believe it has been three years this November. I was recruited by a colleague whom I had previously worked with at another company, after meeting with him and some other great leaders here and knowing the history of this great brand, I was excited to onboard!

What do you love about Portillo’s?

?I love that I am part of a growing company that’s a family-oriented organization with a great value system. The brand is truly built on foundational family ethics. I also love the fact that I am able to enjoy our famous chocolate cake daily. (Smile) It feels really good to be a part of something special.

What was your first position here and what position did you get promoted to?

My very first position here at Portillo’s was General Manager, then I got promoted to Field Development Manager and most recently promoted to Market Manager.

What do you love about your position?

In my role, I love that I get to work with some of the most talented folks in the industry, I also love that I get to teach, coach, develop and share ideas to my team and watch them grow to be dynamic leaders. I also get to bring my whole authentic self to work and share with my teams the same passion and energy that I have.

What advice would you give to someone at Portillo’s looking to move up?

I would say them, take advantage of our ignite program that’s designed for growth and development on all levels in our organization, be sure to have a mentor, be engaged on every shift, perform on your highest level every day and always be willing to learn.?And stay focused on our purpose and values.

Where do see yourself growing in this company?

Honestly, with the rapid growth of this great brand, the sky’s the limit!??There are so many different positions and opportunities that will become available, it’s hard to say. ?
