Meet Marlon Hill.

Meet Marlon Hill.

My friend Marlon Hill is a trailblazer in the Miami community. He’s a well-respected lawyer, civic leader, and family man. Jamaican by birth, Miamian for life!

I don’t recall exactly the year we met, early 1990’s for sure, and it was through the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce's Leadership Miami program.

I have always admired Marlon's poise and charm. He is smooth and always well-dressed. Even as young up & coming leaders in Miami, I could tell that Marlon had a plan and knew exactly where he was going. Over the next several years, it was a treat getting to know him better, serving on boards together, and making our hometown a better place.

When I had the honor to serve as Chair of the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce a few years ago, I made sure that my friend Marlon served on the Chamber's executive committee. His advice and counsel were invaluable.

The most important thing I learned from Marlon, and I saw this in action, was the difference between a mentor and a sponsor. Remember, this was the late 1990's and the term "sponsor" was unheard of at the time. Everyone had mentors, Marlon had a sponsor. Learning that, has been so beneficial to my career and to the young leaders that I have sponsored.

Marlon has earned numerous awards for his civic work, including the prestigious Bill Colson Leadership Miami Award, the M. Athalie Range Foundation Bridge Builder Award, and the inaugural Miami Foundation Ruth Shack Community Leadership Award few. He’s been featured in the Daily Business Review as one of the “outstanding members of the emerging generation of South Florida business and professional leaders.” He also hosts a radio show. There is nothing he cannot do exceptionally well.

?In 2020, Marlon ran for a county commission seat. Although he was not elected, I do not doubt that he will continue working hard to make #Miami a great place to work, live and play.

?He recently joined the power-house law firm of Weiss Serota, who do so much for the 305. They are fortunate to have him. And I and #ThankfulTo count him as a friend!?

Big thanks Carlos F. Orta (He/Him/El) for this kind tribute. We have a long way as two young kids who love our town (LM ‘97). Our work is not done.
