Meet Mahima Mahajan—Software Engineer, nurture.farm
Say hello to?Mahima Mahajan, Software Engineer at?nurture.farm, who bridges the gap between graphic design and technical implementation through her learnings.?She also loves to cook, bake, and travel.
How did you become interested in your line of work?
I have always been a tech enthusiast since my college days, so I always knew technology was something I would build my career in. I wanted to start with a role that not only enhances my skill set and promises fast growth but also creates an impact in society simultaneously.?
How would you describe your role within the company?
It has been almost a year here. What is exciting is I learn something new every day, and my role revolves around bridging the gap between graphic design and technical implementation through my learnings.?
My team coordinates with product managers and UI/UX designers to understand their ideas and then execute with utmost robustness and good quality. The focus of my role is to create a top-notch user experience for solving real-life problems, and I must admit I love doing it.
What is a lesson or experience that is unique to your profession???
Keeping pace with innovation and customer experience is what we keep in mind while building a product. The best thing about creating a user experience is the responsibility to build a robust product that is not only about meeting customers' goals but is also easy and enjoyable to use.
It requires an in-depth knowledge of your target audience and a vision of exactly what you are building, and for that, we aim to build the product, thinking of ourselves as the audience.
What energises you about your work?
Being in a tech team calls for high energy and perseverance to execute daily tasks. The fact I’m doing what I always wanted to do energises me every day before logging in. In startups, what we do as engineers directly affects a lot of business factors, and therefore, taking this accountability automatically energises me once I start with my work every day.
What motivates you to stay positive???
Though I count optimism as one of my strongest personality traits, being positive every time is also not possible. I’m glad I get to experience a positive and cheerful environment at the workplace that further keeps me motivated during and after work hours.?
I believe being motivated and staying positive are two sides of the same coin as either of them leads to the other. I consider myself fortunate to work in a culture that provides me with the right sort of motivation and fills me with positivity.
What has helped you build confidence?
I’m a genuine believer in the fact that confidence comes from within. External factors indeed play a crucial role in boosting one's confidence, and for me, "setting specific goals and achieving them" has made me quite confident.? Learning new technologies and improving my skill set also works as a confidence booster for me professionally and personally.?
What is the greatest risk you have taken???
The first-ever job of my career started during the pandemic, and I was onboarded remotely. I would count joining remotely as the greatest risk to date as I was totally new to the corporate world and had no idea how to go about various things at the workplace.?

I’m glad things turned out to be great for me, and I was able to fit into the role and the organisation deftly. Kudos to all the efforts made by the team to make everyone feel comfortable while working from home.
What lessons and experiences can you share as a woman?
It is all about self-belief. Every woman needs to believe in herself to take that "first step" to make her happy and successful. It is all about being a woman who inspires others to take a chance and prove themselves.
Throughout your career, who were your biggest inspirations?
It has been a year since I started my professional journey. My biggest inspirations are all the women working in top leadership positions and setting great examples for young women like us. I’m a big fan of all the women who are strengthening the corporate world and society with their intelligence.
What is the best advice you have ever received???
I have received this one amazing piece of advice "Never give up before giving your 100%, no matter what the challenge/problem is". Hence, whenever I encounter a complex situation, I recall this statement and give my 100% to win over it.?
Would you have done anything differently if you knew what you know now?
I’m quite happy with what I do today as I have always been a tech enthusiast. Observing people with a great mindset around me always motivates me to learn something new and improve my skill sets as well, so maybe that is the only thing.
What are some of the traits that you admire the most amongst the people you work with?
Every person here is involved in a mission. Their dedication, enthusiasm, and optimism to achieve that mission or to solve complex problems are what I admire the most. Apart from this, everyone is so helpful that it makes it easier for me to share the challenges with my colleagues openly. This also helps create and sustain a better work environment around me.
How do you engage with and empower others???
I always appreciate the good work and express it while sharing feedback. I think people become more confident and work with great motivation when they feel appreciated. I always make sure I’m open to listening to others' perspectives before sharing mine, as that is how a good conversation happens.
Why do you think empathy is so important in this day and age???
We are living in a very unpredictable world right now. No one knows about the struggles people go through in their personal lives. Many of us also refrain from sharing our mental health and personal problems openly even today.?
I believe being empathetic is the need of the hour and the most requisite trait people need to inculcate in their personalities. We need people with empathy around us to make this world a slightly better place to live in.
What are your interests/hobbies?
My hobbies are cooking, baking, and travelling. I like exploring new places (hidden gems) and trying new dishes at restaurants. In my free time, I usually try experimenting with some new dishes, and sometimes they turn out to be really good.
