Meet Lucy and Grace, two of Porsche Centre Hull's Service Advisors.

Our dealership has grown rapidly since we opened in January 2020. We have built a diverse team who utilise their skills from all different backgrounds to work in partnership to create the Porsche experience. The Porsche brand recognises the importance of having women working within the motor-trade and encourages female customers to feel comfortable throughout their journey with us.?

Today we wanted Lucy and Grace to share their perspective as females working in the motor trade. Their truthful reflections show the change in attitudes and how important having a supportive team can be.?

We hope you enjoy reading this article and would love to hear your feedback in the comments.

Working for Porsche is a dream in itself. The luxury of the brand, the opportunities and experiences offered to us are amazing.

How long have you worked in the motor trade?

G: 7 years now. I started part-time as a receptionist until I graduated from university and then progressed to working in the service team full-time.?

L: Since April 2022 – so nearly a year now!?

What is the best part of the job?

G: Working for Porsche is a dream in itself. The luxury of the brand, the opportunities and experiences offered to us are amazing. I’ll never get bored of being able to drive a Porsche and explore all the products every single day.?

L: Definitely getting to experience the product! I'm very grateful I get to drive such amazing cars every day and experience them out on the track. (The team are ok too!)

Why do you choose to work in the motor trade?

G: I grew up around cars as my dad always worked in the motor trade. My interest was sparked when I would go to work with him to look around and my favourite part was seeing the cars in the workshop. I was so excited to join the trade and widen my knowledge. I considered working as a technician but I enjoy being able to communicate directly with customers and the aftersales team.?

L: From a young age, I've always had an interest in cars and the thought of working for such a prestigious brand was very exciting to me. I enjoy the fast-paced environment and love what Porsche stands for as a brand. It’s great to work for a company where you feel respected, and you're not just a number.?

How do you find working as a female in a typically male-dominated industry?

G: I have definitely had my ups and downs working in such a male-dominated industry for so long. At first, I used to find it difficult if comments were made, such as “Can I speak to a man?”, or if my competency was questioned. However, my confidence in my own abilities and the support of an amazing team really helps me prove my efficiency.?

L: It can be challenging. I feel that sometimes people are surprised to hear a female voice on the other end of the phone or a female walking out to them to greet them. I think we're not taken as seriously as we'd like to be at times; a lot of men want to hear things from a male, which can be disheartening and frustrating. However, I think men are slowly becoming more accepting of females working in male-dominated industries and having the support of the team is really encouraging. I love how much Porsche supports women and encourage women to get involved in the brand.?

What is your favourite Porsche??

G: Obviously, you have to love the look of the Porsche GT3, and the drive is just something else. But the Taycan Turbo has also stolen my heart. I took one on a track, and it’s incredible what they are capable of for an electric car!?

L: It’s hard to choose just one. The Porsche 911 (992) and Porsche Turbo S Cab are stunning, but the Porsche Taycan Turbo S is incredible to drive. I also love all the GT3 products, so I can't choose!?

What are you most looking forward to in 2023 at Porsche Centre Hull??

G: I look forward to our annual track day as they are just so much fun and they give me a chance to interact with our customers. It is really special being able to watch our customers really test their cars and share that moment with them. I am also looking forward to the all-electric Macan release as I think it will be a big hit and very popular.?

L: The track days and training courses are definitely things I look forward to and are what keep me inspired. I am also looking forward to the release of the electric Porsche Macan and am very intrigued to see the Hybrid 911 in the future.?
