In this interview, Nana shares her path to success, the lessons she’s learned, and why adaptability is the key to thriving in a fast-paced marketing world.

Hi Nana! I've been really looking forward to chatting with you. Thanks for taking the time.

Let's break the ice a bit -- can you tell us where you're from and where you're based now?

I'm originally from Austin, Texas (yeehaw), but I am currently based in Chiang Mai, Thailand.

And what do you like most about living in Chiang Mai?

Since I love eating and eating a lot, I love the variety of buffet options in Chiang Mai. There are countless grill and hotpot places to choose from depending on the flavor you want, your budget, and where you live.

You need to tell me all your favorite spots after the interview.

Of course, I'll send you a whole list of recommendations.

What's your role here at Ling?

I've been with Ling for 2 years and 5 months, and my role here has changed quite a bit during this time. Right now, I'm the resident ASO Expert + Ads Specialist + Brand Ambassador.

You've been with us for quite some time. How did you find out about Ling? Can you share a little bit about what was your interview process like?

It's been a while, but I found out about Ling via a Facebook post. I remember seeing the post while sitting in the lobby of my condo on Valentine's Day, and I sent in my resume and cover letter that evening.

The interview process was super nerve-racking. There was an initial phone interview, a video interview with the Growth Marketing team, and a final interview with the CEO. I remember preparing for hours for the second interview, which included a presentation of my case study. I must've practiced that presentation over ten times because I'm prone to getting so nervous in interviews that I always forget things, even when I'm an expert!

I'm sure you killed that interview, or else you wouldn't be here today!

What does a normal day at Ling look like for you?

My day must start with a cup of hot tea.

Then, I join Daily Standup with the Growth Marketing team and check my emails and Slack messages. I hate having unread emails in my inbox, so you'll never see me with even one unread email. Next, I check my ClickUp tasks to see what I can work on for the day. A typical day for me is a mix of ads and ASO work. The number of my meetings has died down quite a bit, so I usually have one meeting per day at most.

What's your favorite thing about working at Ling?

My team. Despite all the changes the Growth Marketing team has experienced, its grit and character have never wavered. People on the team have always been energetic, friendly, funny, and supportive.

What's been a highlight for you, career-wise, while working at Ling?

Building our Ling Scholarship program. Within a month of joining Ling, our CEO asked me to create an entire scholarship from scratch. Creating the scholarship has been a highlight ever since, and I love reviewing the candidates every semester.

We just announced the winners of the fall scholarship last week! Congratulations on your work on that.

Other than Ling, is there another app you've been loving right now?

Can't go wrong with YouTube. I use YouTube for EVERYTHING.

That's so valid. YouTube is such a staple app. Pretty much everyone has it on their phone already.

Since we love learning about new cultures and languages around here, can you tell us a word you like in your own language?

This question was hard to answer, but I'll go with the expression, "Bless your heart." Since you'll mostly hear it in the South, and I'm originally from Texas, I think it perfectly encapsulates Southern hospitality and our sweet way with words.

I love that!

Now, can you share an inspirational quote that inspires you to keep going?

Another tricky question to answer, but I came across this quote a year ago that has stuck with me ever since: "Day one or one day." It's so simple, but its play on words shows how you can completely change the meaning by switching two words around. The message also fits so many different situations.

If you could give one piece of advice to your fresh-out-of-college self, what would it be?

I would tell my college self not to waste time on little things. Work a little bit daily towards big goals to reap the rewards later. The best things in life never come easy or quick.

To cap this interview, can you leave us with any advice for anyone who wants to work in the field of Marketing?

Anyone entering Marketing must be willing to adapt to the times. Marketing isn't the same as it was five years ago and won't be the same in five years, so you have to be flexible in your methods and approach to fit the trends. If you like lifelong learning, I'd say Marketing is the right field for you.

Nana’s journey at Ling is an inspiring reminder of the power of adaptability and continuous growth. From her heartfelt advice to her strategic tips on follow-up and persistence, she embodies the spirit of lifelong learning that makes Ling special.

During tough times, we'll take a page from Nana's book and keep in mind: "Day one or one day."
