Meet the Lingers: Meg

Meet the Lingers: Meg

Let's chat with Meg, the friendly face behind our UX/UI design at Ling! With nearly 1.5 years at Ling, she has not only honed her design skills but has also embraced the challenges of remote work with grace and enthusiasm. As Meg shares her story—from the bustling streets of New York to the vibrant atmosphere of Barcelona—Meg reminds us all that the journey of learning and self-discovery is just as important as the destination.

Hello, Meg! We don't get to talk much because you've been working remotely, so thank you so much for making the time to sit down and chat.

How has the remote work been for you so far?

I love the flexibility! I can work from anywhere, which allows me to balance my professional and personal life seamlessly.

That's awesome! Can you tell us what does a normal day at Ling look like for you in your role?

I’m a UX/UI Designer and every day for me is quite unique. I generally check my email, Slack, and ClickUp for updates, then get started on whatever design tasks I have planned.

How did you find out about Ling, and what was your interview process like?

About a year and a half ago, a friend of mine had just started working here and commented on my portfolio on LinkedIn. That caught the attention of HR, and they reached out to me!

You've been here for over a year now. What's been the highlight of your career at Ling so far.

I’ve learned so many new things. It’s a very dynamic and agile workspace, and I have a lot of input regarding what projects I work on.

Do you have a favorite part about working at Ling?

Definitely the people! Everyone here is so warm and welcoming.

Can you share a funny or heartwarming anecdote with your coworkers?

There are too many! I’ve visited Chiang Mai twice now, and it’s been great to see everyone in person. The warmth and camaraderie are unforgettable!

We know Ling is a great app and we're sure you could talk about how much you love the UI/UX design of it all day. But, what’s another app you’ve been loving right now?

I love the New York Times puzzles!

We're a very diverse company, we love languages around here. Are you learning any languages right now?

Yes! I’m learning Spanish and Catalan. I was taking in-person classes for a while, but now I mostly dabble with different apps, read news articles, and watch TV in Spanish.

What’s a word you like, either in your own language or a foreign one, and why?

"Gezellig" in Dutch—it's one of those words without a direct translation, perfect for cozy situations where you’re enjoying the company of yourself or others.

If you could give one piece of advice to your fresh-out-of-college self, what would it be?

Give yourself grace! Don’t be afraid to make mistakes or ask questions, and take your time to figure things out.

Do you have any advice for anyone who wants to work in your field?

Working in UX design is very varied. All of my friends in the field have unique day-to-day tasks and specializations. Boot camps are a great place to learn the basics of UX design, but everything else you need can be learned on the job. Just get started!

Now, let's leave something for our readers to think about after this interview. Can you share an inspirational quote that motivates you?

"What if it all works out?"

What a beautiful quote. This simple yet powerful question encourages us to embrace the unknown and see the potential for positive outcomes in our journeys. At Ling, we believe in nurturing creativity and supporting each other as we navigate the challenges of work and life. Thank you for joining us in this conversation with Meg—let’s carry her wisdom forward and continue to ask ourselves this empowering question in our own lives!
