Meet the Lingers: Lindsay
This week, we had a chat with Lindsay, Ling’s Digital PR Manager, who has been with the company for three exciting years! Originally from Canada and now living amidst the natural beauty of Chiang Mai, Thailand, Lindsay shares her journey of professional growth, language learning, and what keeps her inspired at Ling.
From exploring Thai language nuances to her love for the Japanese term ukiyo, Lindsay embodies the spirit of curiosity and passion that makes Ling such a special place to work. ??
Hey, Lindsay! Let's just get right into then. We know that you're originally from Canada, but now call Chiang Mai your home. What do you love most about living here?
Definitely being so close to nature. There’s something magical about being able to go hiking, fishing, swimming, or camping on a whim. It’s a nature lover's dream and makes for such a peaceful and fulfilling lifestyle.
Can you share the story of how you discovered Ling, and what the interview process was like for you?
I first discovered Ling when I helped localize the app back in early 2021. It was such a fascinating project that I wanted to get more involved. The interview process was a series of three interviews—definitely intense—but it gave me the chance to meet leaders at different levels in the company. It was clear early on how passionate and collaborative the team is, which made me excited to join.
You are the Digital PR Manager -- what’s a typical day look like for you?
My day kicks off with a Daily Standup meeting with my team to align on priorities and updates. After that, I dive into prospecting new opportunities and building partnerships. That’s the heart of my role—connecting with people and organizations that align with Ling's vision. There’s usually at least one meeting during the day to brainstorm, strategize, or collaborate across departments, which keeps things fresh and engaging.
What’s your favourite part about working at here Ling?
I’d say it’s the combination of flexibility and professional growth. Ling encourages you to explore new skills and take on challenges, which has helped me evolve both personally and professionally.
Any career highlights you'd want to share?
One highlight has been the chance to expand my skill set. I came in with a background in SEO and marketing, but Ling encouraged me to explore PR and outreach. Those experiences have been invaluable in shaping my career.
Other than Ling, is there another app you’ve been loving recently?
I’ve recently started using TikTok, and I totally get the hype now. It’s dangerously distracting but a lot of fun!
I hope you're also following us on TikTok! We make some great language learning content.
Are you learning any languages right now? How’s it going?
I’m still working on mastering Thai. I’ve taught myself to read phonetically, which feels like a huge accomplishment, but now I’m focusing on understanding what the words actually mean. It’s a challenging but rewarding process.
Tell me a word you love, and why it stands out to you.
One word I absolutely love is ukiyo, a Japanese term that means “to live in the moment.” It’s such a beautiful reminder to embrace the present and let go of unnecessary worries.
Can you share a quote or proverb that keeps you inspired?
One quote that always resonates with me is, “Nothing in life is to be feared; it is only to be understood.” It’s a powerful reminder to approach challenges with curiosity instead of fear.
What advice would you give to your fresh-out-of-college self?
I’d tell myself, “You did the right thing, and you are exactly where you need to be.” It’s a reminder to trust the journey and have faith in the decisions you’ve made.
Any tips for those wanting to break into your field?
My advice is to join a small, growing company where there’s room to learn and grow. You’ll gain hands-on experience and have the chance to work with passionate people who inspire you to do your best every day.
Lindsay’s story is a reminder that embracing growth and stepping out of your comfort zone leads to incredible opportunities. Whether it's diving into new skills, learning a language, or living in the moment like ukiyo suggests, there’s always room to explore and thrive. ?? Her advice? Trust your journey and never stop learning.
