Meet Lewis Thompson: North Wales Regional Development Manager at Beicio Cymru

We are thrilled to welcome Lewis Thompson to the Beicio Cymru team as our new North Wales Regional Development Manager. With a passion for sports and a strong background in physical education, Lewis is set to bring fresh energy and enthusiasm to our organisation.

Personal Background

Lewis, a fluent Welsh Speaker,? hails from the picturesque seaside town of Prestatyn in North Wales, a region he's well acquainted with, having also lived in Bangor for five years. This deep connection with the area fuels his passion for promoting cycling and physical activity across North Wales. Outside of work, Lewis enjoys a variety of sports, particularly football, which he actively participates in. An interesting tidbit about Lewis is his ambidextrous ability: he writes with his left hand but throws with his right.

Professional Background

Lewis’s journey to Beicio Cymru began with his studies at Bangor University, where he graduated in 2021 with a degree in Sport, Health, and Physical Education. Following his graduation, he took on the role of Vice-President for Sports in the Bangor University Students’ Union. There, he worked closely with university sports clubs, helping them develop and expand their activities, and provided numerous opportunities for students to engage in physical activities. This experience laid a strong foundation for his current role, equipping him with the skills needed to support and develop cycling in North Wales.

Role and Aspirations

Lewis was drawn to Beicio Cymru by the organisation's commitment to inspiring children and young people through cycling. He is particularly excited about the new strategy and brand launched by Beicio Cymru and is eager to contribute to achieving the organisation's goals. As the North Wales Development Manager, his immediate focus is on building relationships with local activity leaders, groups, and clubs. By understanding the strengths, weaknesses, and opportunities in the region, Lewis aims to provide tailored support to enhance the cycling community.

Vision and Impact

In his new role, Lewis is determined to make a positive impact on the local cycling scene. His goal is to increase participation among children and young people, whether through clubs, recreational activities, or competitive events. He sees himself as a supportive figure for the community, particularly for the volunteers who are crucial to the region’s cycling activities. Over the next year, Lewis aims to encourage and support clubs in organising more events and to assist with funding applications to improve facilities, ultimately boosting participation.

Personal Insights

Reflecting on his career influences, Lewis attributes his passion for promoting physical activity to the positive experiences he had with sports growing up. He hopes to provide similar opportunities for young people, encouraging lifelong engagement with physical activities. His advice to those new to cycling is to explore various disciplines and find what they enjoy most. Given a chance to cycle anywhere in the world, Lewis would choose a scenic coastal path along the Mediterranean, combining his love for the sea with a desire for beautiful, warm-weather rides.

As Lewis embarks on this new journey with Beicio Cymru, he looks forward to making significant contributions to the development of cycling in North Wales. We are excited to see the positive changes and lasting impact he will bring to our community. Welcome, Lewis!
