Meet Koen - our Co director & CMO

Today we will introduce Koen, Co-director & CMO in The Netherlands at MyStamp.?

Hello Koen! Tell us a little bit about yourself and how you found MyStamp?

I’m Dutch, 25 years old, and spend most of my time between Amsterdam, and The Hague where I live close to the beach. I studied Business Administration with a specialisation in digital business at the University of Amsterdam and am now still finalising my thesis for my Msc. in Data Science & Marketing Analytics at the Erasmus University in Rotterdam.

I’ve always had the ambition to start a business myself since I was quite young. I consider myself a critical thinker and a generalist, having knowledge of a variety of topics from data science, to finance and economics, to marketing, that don’t necessarily feel directly related at first sight. I feel that that’s where creativity and innovation comes from, at the intersection of seemingly unrelated subjects.?

The road to starting MyStamp in the Netherlands began with Patrick

Patrick and I have been friends since we were still kids, and over the past couple of years we had been talking a lot about quitting our jobs and starting something new. After experimenting with e-commerce a bit and brainstorming about many ideas, MyStamp crossed our paths. Patrick initially got in touch with the team of MyStamp in Sweden due to him returning to Gothenburg, a place that he had lived for many years. He convinced me to start MyStamp in The Netherlands and within months we came to an agreement with the Swedish MyStamp team to gain exclusive rights for the distribution of MyStamp’s software in The Netherlands. In June 2021 we started in Amsterdam, and now count over 70 locations within less than a year despite never ending covid lockdowns. Soon we shall be expanding to more cities in The Netherlands.

What is your objective with Marketing for MyStamp?

My main goal is to diversify our acquisition approach. Where most of the sales currently come from outbound activities, I want to generate more leads from inbound activities such as SEO, Google Ads, and Social Media and optimize the website for capturing these leads. Also, I like doing so in a data-driven way by tracking the effectiveness of all interactions within our inbound marketing funnel, ideally acquiring new customers at a lower or equal cost of acquisition compared to that of our outbound sales methods. It is the only way to become more scalable as a SaaS business, and to expand to more remote areas.

Do you have any hobbies outside work?

I like going out for dinner with friends, hanging out on the beach during summer, and going to music festivals in my leisure time. I also enjoy travelling a lot and immersing myself in different cultures.After work or on the weekends I also like to exercise. I try to work out regularly or play sports like padel and squash with friends. Outside of that I’m quite interested in finance and investing so following the markets also takes a lot of my attention.

Tell us your number one favorite thing about Mystamp’s app?

I like the fact that it is well designed, and easy to use. The user experience is very good if you look at the scanning process with which a consumer receives a new stamp. I also like that there is a sense of exploration in the app where it is easy to filter and find places that offer nice promotions close to you. There is a local dimension to the app even though it is already available in many different cities around Sweden and The Netherlands.

Find something you love to do every day and do it in an environment in which you can thrive

Give us your best advice on how to stay motivated at work!??

I mainly stay motivated because I like what I currently do and because I personally benefit from the growth of MyStamp. But as in any business, growth is not a straight line up. There are always bumps in the road, and a good team also helps to keep the morale high.

My advice, although it sounds quite corny, is to find something you love to do every day and do it in an environment in which you can thrive, because the biggest fulfilment?is going to come from intrinsic motivation, not from external rewards.
