A message from our Founder Bobby Semple.

Things I have learnt after building my first business from 2 to 70 employees in 2 years, recruiting for large businesses such as Rolls Royce, Virgin and Goodrich aviation and starting my recruitment business Simplified Recruitment Solutions:

1. Hire quickly – if they don’t have all the skills then train them.

2. Train and induct every employee – training should be ongoing, and induction/onboarding should last more than 1 day (try 6-9 months).

3. Most people can do most jobs when trained and given time.

4. Don’t micromanage – With the correct systems and processes in place and trust, you shouldn’t need to do this.

5. Allow your employees to take ownership of their role – Your employees are on the front line. Give them the freedom to make your business better.

6. Offer flexibility – If the job is getting done then why does it matter?

7. Employees will come and go. Don’t get upset about it. It’s their life.

8. Make sure when an employee leaves, they are leaving a better employee than when they started…think skills and training.

9. Employees don’t own the business so don’t expect them to work like they do.

10. Fail quickly. Don’t be afraid to change something if it isn’t working.

11. Use the probation period to your advantage.

12. Some employees will not grow with the company. Sometimes you will have to move them on if they aren’t willing to upskill and learn.

13. Treat your team as you would want to be treated….. with respect. They are here to help you and your business.

14. Treat your employees like a partnership. They are providing their skills, time and experience in exchange for money.
