Meet Julian Sirakov, Senior Engineering Manager @ SkyFi

Earlier this summer, Julian Sirakov joined our SkyFi team as a Senior Engineering Manager and we couldn’t be more excited! In his role, he builds and supports a team of engineers that ensure a smooth experience within the SkyFi app.

With prior experience across transportation, medical, and fintech software publishing, Julian is no stranger to having customers across industries with different wants and needs. With our end users being across verticals as well, Julian is exactly the person for this job.?

Why SkyFi?

I remember as a kid – we were watching movies and one of the “cool things” that only very exclusive set of people could do was get access to satellite images on demand. Well, we might not be at the real-time video stage, but we are at the stage where satellite images are not exclusive for the Military or DoD. We are in the age of crowdsourcing solutions for all kinds of problems and having access to satellite images gives people a whole new perspective on things. From climate effects - to agriculture - to insurance. The most fascinating thing is that we don’t even know all the use cases people will have - we are just fueling people’s imagination with a quick, easy and user-friendly tool for accessing satellite and Earth Observation (EO) images. I believe the platform will help many solve many problems in a more efficient, or even unimagined, way.

What's the most exciting thing about SkyFi?

The most exciting thing is that we are pioneers and we are treading uncharted waters. This can be daunting to many, but being first ultimately provides us with plenty of options to go and explore.??

What's your favorite satellite image?

I love this image of Venice.

What is your role at SkyFi?

I am joining the team as a Senior Engineering Manager where my responsibilities include building a strong technical team that delivers high quality quickly and delivering a great technical platform with a strong API. Together, my team and I will provide capabilities that allow for an easy and intuitive interface for ordering and downloading Earth Observation (EO) images.?

What drives you?

I like challenges. Here at Skyfi, we are questioning a lot of things in an attempt to enable a much easier process for obtaining EO images from satellites. We must challenge our assumptions every day, while still building a solid technical foundation.
