Meet Joshua Gabisan.
I've known him for quite a while now as we attended the same church. He's been part of our youth group.
After experiencing extreme back pain, his parents decided to take him to the doctor for a checkup. His MRI results show that there was a huge tumor on his back. Josh was just 12 years old when he got diagnosed with Stage 4 Neuroblastoma, a type of cancer that develops from immature nerve cells.
The doctors weren’t sure if he was going to make it.
We were in the early stages of the foundation when we thought of how to help Josh with his battle with cancer. It started with a simple video of Manny wishing him well and telling him that he’s praying for Josh’s recovery, and gave him a signed shirt.
Josh is one of the strongest kids I’ve ever known. Imagine being taken away from school and not seeing your friends as you’re undergoing all these treatments—it's not the usual routine of a teenager.
Manny wanted to lift Josh's spirits and break the monotony of being in and out of the hospital. So he sent Josh another video inviting him and his family to come and see his fight in Las Vegas. It was a fight to remember. Not just for Manny, who won by split decision, but also for this young boy to see his hero in the ring.
The doctors have successfully removed the tumor in his back but he continues to fight the cancer that's left in his bones.
Help us help more kids like Josh. If you’re interested in supporting the Manny Pacquiao Foundation, send me a message so I could send you some info about what we do and how you can help.
