Meet Jorge: Celebrating Veterans Day

This November, Veterans Day is observed in the United States to honor military veterans. It coincides with Armistice Day and Remembrance Day, which are celebrated in other countries that mark the anniversary of the end of World War I. GE Gas Power is recognizing this important day by speaking with one of our GE Veterans Network (GEVN) leaders, Jorge Orlandini.

In addition to his role as Technical Leader for the Product Service and Repair Engineering Rotor Teams, Jorge is a co-leader of the GE Gas Power Veterans Network, providing guidance and leadership to all the Network hubs to support veteran hiring, development, and community outreach.

For Jorge, the GEVN is an opportunity to get back in touch with the veteran community. “When I left the Army after eight years of service as an Infantry Officer, I started my professional civilian career in a small company that didn’t have much veteran presence,” he said. “When I came to GE, I was thrilled to see such a large veteran population across all businesses in the company and at all professional levels.”

The GEVN’s mission focuses on three main pillars for veterans: Support, Grow, and Hire.

Support

In partnership with GE Aviation, the GEVN is holding a virtual care package drive for deployed service members, which begins each year in August and concludes with delivery to the troops by Veterans Day. The GEVN supports veterans in many other ways, including support for reservists/guard members and their families during deployment as well as to local communities.

Grow

When Jorge joined, he was able to quickly connect with a great team who shared similar values and life experiences.  “Coming to the company and immediately being able to connect with a network like this has been extremely rewarding and I’m thankful for being able to give back to our fellow veterans.” Other GEVN members have similar opportunities at all professional levels, including mentoring sessions with senior leaders.

Hire

As a GEVN co-leader, Jorge works to bridge the gap between the military and civilian worlds by holding “Military 101” training for GE Gas Power’s HR and Talent Acquisition partners. This training teaches those teams, who may have little to no exposure to the military, an understanding of a veteran’s experience during their military service as well as explaining the “Value of the Vet.” The GEVN also offers resume reviews to provide clarity on military roles and how that experience will translate to GE.

Are you a U.S. military veteran interested in joining GE? Visit https://invent.ge/poweringtalent and be sure to select “Veterans Network (VN)” under GE Initiatives of Interest to be informed of future opportunities!

This is awesome, Jorge! I am glad that you are having a great career at GE. Hope all is well with you and your family.

As someone who reported to Jorge at one time I can say GE is quite fortunate to have him on their team.
