Meet Jordi - Frontend Engineer at Ocado Technology Barcelona

Meet Jordi Pons - a Senior Software Engineer at our Barcelona development centre. We asked him a few questions about his role, and what it’s like being part of the Ocado Technology team.

What do you love the most about working here?

I love the sense of belonging. We’re a growing team, but we’ve stayed close, so it still feels like we’re part of a family. And it’s an international family. I think there are more than 30 nationalities at our Barcelona development centre alone.

What does a typical day at Ocado Technology look like for you?

A big part of my time is spent with my team. Collaboration is important to us, so we do plenty of code review sessions and pair programming. We have regular standup and planning meetings too, and then there’s the less formal chats around the coffee machine or over lunch. Sometimes those are where the best ideas come from.

What key tools and tech stack do you work with?

We usually work with the React Javascript library, along with Typescript, Jest, and the React testing library - along with quite a few more. They’re the best tools for the job. We also have the flexibility to choose our preferred IDE, which definitely helps us deliver projects more efficiently.?

What kind of engineering challenges do you enjoy?

There are lots; we’re a tech business that never stands still! I always enjoy launching new features, and the challenges of developing our micro-frontend architecture, unifying address flows, and lots more.
