Meet Jodie Henderson, Loans Processor

With almost 50 years of combined experience at Mortgage Choice in Arundel and Broadbeach, our team is made up of diverse backgrounds, professions, and reasons for doing what we do. So, who are the fantastic people that make up our mortgage broking business, and what motivates them to help clients every day?

This instalment of our ‘Meet the Team’ series shares a little more about one of our long-standing team members. Loans Processing Manager, Jodie Henderson, has been with our team since 2009, based at the Mortgage Choice in Arundel office.

Here’s a little bit about Jodie that you may not know…

Having started her working life as a “Junior” in a bank in Byron Bay, NSW, Jodie was transferred at only 21 years old to be the new Bank Manager of a branch in Southport, Gold Coast.

Jodie honed her financial skills for another 10 years after that move before leaving to take on the arguably more challenging yet rewarding role of full-time mother to her three boys.

When Jodie returned to work in 2006, it was at a different Mortgage Choice business and in a Loans Processing role. In 2009, Jodie met and started working as a Loans Processor for Darren Comerford, which was only a year after Mortgage Choice in Arundel opened.

In 2018, Jodie was recognised at TheAdviser magazine’s Qld Better Business Awards as the State’s “Best Loan Administrator”, which still speaks volumes to the amount of care and attention Jodie delivers for her clients.

We asked Jodie some questions to find out a little bit more about what motivates her...

What are some of your favourite things?

“My children. The ups and downs of parenting is always keeping us on our toes. Our three adult children still live at home, so it's crowded and busy, but it's fun.

Photography. My interest in photography started when the boys were young and has grown with them. Since they’ve always played sport, I have spent nearly 20 years following them around the cricket and hockey fields, taking more photos than anyone could count.

Our cat. He isn’t too bright, but he’s cute and cuddly and we love him.

Lastly, coffee in the morning. It’s always a treat to start the day with a good coffee to get some fire in the belly ready for another hectic day of loans processing. Oh, and a glass of wine in the evening to wind down from a hectic day of loans processing.”

What would be your ‘last meal’?

“Well If I get to choose, it might be a Thai stir-fry with peanut satay sauce and a glass of Sauvignon Blanc, with a dark chocolate Cherry Ripe for dessert!”

Why did you decide to become a Loans Processor?

“I fell into it really, as it was a logical step from my banking background. It also allowed me to get back into the workforce part-time, before progressing to full-time as the children became older. I briefly tried working in a bank when I returned to work but found the loans processing scene much more enjoyable.”

What do you enjoy most about being a Loans Processor?

“Firstly, my colleagues. I work with a group of wonderful people who have become great friends over the many years we have worked together. 

Secondly, our clients. I get to meet so many nice clients and the role enables me to help them. My experience (combined with a few well-placed contacts) means that I can help people get their loans sorted during what can be a really stressful time for them. We are often dealing with numerous lender requirements, complex loan structures, Government requirements that are forever-changing, and almost-always tight timelines. Working to help our clients through all of this is very rewarding and it is a nice feeling to be appreciated for the work that I do.

Finally, our referrers and referral partners (those who refer clients to us). Many of these people that we work with everyday are amazing people.”

What motivates you to do what you do?

“Being part of a successful franchise business and developing my knowledge of lending is certainly rewarding. Knowing that my hard work and perseverance will help me achieve success for others is also a huge motivating factor in my role.”
