Meet Jo?o - Panoply's Data Analyst

This transparent approach is dependent on possessing the right in-house expertise, exemplified by Panoply Data Analyst Jo?o Renato Falc?o.?

“I love working with data—finding different ways to display it, the analysis, the comparisons,” said Jo?o. “It’s my job to ensure the data is high quality and easily understandable by the client. Each campaign is different, and even a single campaign can have several micro-campaigns, challenging me to display the information effectively.”

That kind of dedication and discipline likely comes from Jo?o’s background in the armed forces. He was a member of the Brazilian army for four years where, on top of the more traditional ‘army things’ he worked as a statistician and data analyst, work which laid important foundations for his role at Panoply.??

The demanding army fitness regime also led to a passion for running. While in the forces, Jo?o had to be able to run 1.5 miles in less than 12 minutes. A knee injury put his running passion on pause for a little while, but he’s gradually getting back there.?

“I have had a problem with my knee and the doctor has advised me not to run. But I’m a little stubborn so I’m getting back to it very cautiously. Running is the best exercise. When I do it, the feeling of the endorphins is amazing. It’s very rewarding.”

Jo?o humbly describes himself as “the Excel sheet guy” but—like Panoply as a company—strives to go beyond the numbers, constantly looking for ways to optimise internal processes, taking the raw data so the team can distil it into actionable insights.

“There are lots of parts of the process that I love,” he said. “The most rewarding part is to get to a point where you know you are presenting the right level of information in the right way to the client. The data analysis part is very rewarding. Not just being able to make comparisons and provide insights to clients, but also to internal team members.”

Jo?o’s work ensures Panoply’s account teams can spend more time strategizing around campaign performance, versus combing through intricate data points. And clients can be confident they’re seeing a representation of how their campaigns are being received in as close to real-time as possible.?

This makes Panoply very efficient and hyper-focused on delivery. In a world where there may be multiple creative assets running at any given time, Jo?o’s work supports Panoply in removing the complexity of reviewing how campaigns are performing for their clients.?

“We were able to create a dashboard where clients could click on specific creative and, whether it was a video or image, it would display what it was along with the KPIs it was driving,” he added. “That has been a very proud accomplishment.”

Having moved to Canada from Brazil in October 2021, Jo?o has immersed himself in the country's culture as much as he immerses himself in performance data.?

“I am learning French—not so long ago I was having classes four times a week,” he said. “At first I learned this because I was in Quebec and understood the need to speak the language here. I also realised I could integrate better and make friends and communicate better at work. After I get more fluent in French, I’d like to learn Spanish or Italian maybe. I like the process of learning new languages. It opens a lot of doors, and it also helps me understand more internet memes! So the more languages you know, the more fun you can have.”
