What inspired you to choose your professional career?

I originally was studying to become a vet at the University of Maryland. After a few semesters, I realized that I was not capable of handling the course workload at the time. A friend at the time was studying environmental science and convinced me to enter the program. I've been working in the field since. It pays the bills. I actually thrive on other things outside of my career that inspire me—helping others and art. My goal is to mesh those two things together in the JMT workplace. I'm working on that every day. It's a true passion of mine.

Can you tell us about a significant project you’ve handled and how it has impacted you, our company, or the architecture, engineering, construction, and/or technology industries?

I'm involved in several significant projects at JMT, including the I-95 Express Toll Lanes, Alexandria Waterfront, and Long Bridge North. I truly love working with the folks on these projects and hope that my passion shows, but I truly am more interested in the JMT culture and what I can bring to the table to improve or add to it. I'm so passionate about truly making the work environment around me completely inclusive for all. As a dad of two girls and being disabled, I really hope to see complete equity and inclusion across the board. It's a passionate goal of mine in my career. There are so many folks out there that have a voice and need to be heard. They have amazing things to offer!

Are there any hobbies or interests outside of work that you feel have influenced your professional journey?

I'm a painter. I paint oils using the wet-on-wet technique. Just like Bill Alexander and Bob Ross. Art doesn't have boundaries, and anyone can do it. I really feel everyone is an artist, and they need to show that side. We work in an industry with many boundaries; art is a way to escape and break the boundaries we have in our careers. This type of art is something I couldn’t do a few years ago, but with advances in medicine, I can enjoy it now. I also volunteer as much as I can. I give back to others that truly need it.
