Meet Jennifer Crowley: A Pillar of Reliability at WACKER

In our latest "Meet the Team Member" series, we are excited to introduce Jennifer Crowley, a principal reliability engineer at WACKER. Jennifer's journey with us is a testament to her dedication, expertise, and the vibrant culture that defines our organization.

A Career Rooted in Reliability

Jennifer is a cornerstone of our Asset Reliability Engineering team within corporate engineering. Based at the Calvert City site, she has primarily supported the Charleston plant for the past three years. With 18 years of experience and a Certified Maintenance and Reliability Professional certification, Jennifer brings a wealth of knowledge to her role. Her maritime background and tenure as Maintenance Manager at Calvert City have equipped her with the skills to deploy best practices in maintenance and reliability.

"I transitioned into the chemical industry from the maritime industry because I was looking to come ashore and have a regular job. Lucky for me, my skills are highly transferrable across industries," Jennifer shares.

Embracing WACKER's Values

Jennifer resonates deeply with WACKER's mission of creating solutions for a better world. "Working for WACKER means working on solutions that make a better world for generations to come. We all contribute to improving our society by manufacturing innovative and continually sustainable products," she says.

A Culture of Innovation and Problem-Solving

Reflecting on her eight years at WACKER, Jennifer describes her experience as both challenging and rewarding. "If I could summarize my experience at WACKER, I would describe it as challenging. I work in reliability, which means finding creative solutions to various problems (old and new). The work is different each day, and I get to apply new skills," she explains.

WACKER's commitment to professional development has been instrumental in Jennifer's growth. "I've earned my Green Belt and Black Belt and built up many reliability engineering skills over the years, leading to certification as a Maintenance and Reliability Professional with SMRP. Outside of work, I've focused on my master's in management and now a PhD in leadership," she notes.

Building a Community

Jennifer appreciates the sense of community at WACKER, both internally and externally. "WACKER does a good job of providing opportunities to participate and contribute to the community. For example, volunteerism in underserved communities, or the Calvert City plant’s Women’s group, which I’ve had the opportunity to provide informative lectures to," she says.

Looking Ahead

As Jennifer looks forward to focusing her efforts on the Calvert City site for the APM implementation project, she is excited about the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead. "It's been some years since I've fully supported this plant, and it will be nice to be a part of the local site again," she shares.

Words of Wisdom

Jennifer's career advice is rooted in her diverse experiences. "Early on in my career, one Chief Engineer said to me that 'We get paid for what we know, not what we can do.' He was referring to being someone who can find the answers to serious problems over simply being a brute force. I’ve spent my career intentionally educating myself because I believe he was right," she recalls.

A Personal Note

On a personal note, Jennifer is looking forward to a special trip to Costa Rica with her family in 2024. "On my bucket list this year is to get back to Costa Rica after 21 years. My husband and I have planned a trip for our daughter’s 12th birthday in October," she shares.
