Meet Jackson Duffy: Summer PR and Events Intern

In honor of National Intern Day, we sat with our PR and Events Summer Intern, Jackson Duffy, to get to know him a little better...

Tell us a little about your college experience.

I am currently a rising senior at Dickinson College in Carlisle, PA. I am an International Business and Management major meaning I focus on all aspects of business, looking at things from both a domestic and global perspective. A lot of my work revolves around comparing and contrasting business in the US to business in other parts of the world, along with the overlap and interactions between the two. I have been a member of the Men's Track and Field team and also spent time tutoring high school and college students in Italian and English.

What interested you about the work we do at Half Street Group?

Half Street being a growing business was really exciting, as I felt my work would be really valuable and I would gain a lot of real world experience. This has absolutely been the case. I think the fact Half Street is an agency as well was really interesting for me as I knew it could provide a lot of good opportunities to work in a bunch of different business sectors and learn how to handle a multitude of different clients at once.?

What is your favorite part of working in communications and public relations?

The diverse nature of the work really appeals to me. The fact that on the agency side I am working in so many different sectors and learning so much about different industries is something I absolutely enjoy and embrace. My mother has worked in PR for over 25 years, so being able to get involved in similar things she has done that I have grown up hearing about over the years is very special to me as well.

What do you see for your future career?

I want to do something where I will always be learning. I think the opportunity to grow my network through events in my internship as well as learning about the true business world are both going to be super helpful in allowing me to achieve this goal. While I have nothing super specific in mind, I know that when the right opportunity comes my way I will be ready.

Tell us about any exciting opportunities coming up for you.

One of the most exciting things coming up will be getting my bachelors degree from Dickinson College next spring. I am really excited to finish my college education and see what next steps will occur in my life. A big thing I will be engaging in is the possibility of a Fulbright to go teach in Italy for a year. I am an Italian minor at Dickinson, and the Italian studies program has truly transformed my learning experience and world view, so an opportunity to continue to better my language skills and also work abroad would be a dream come true.
