As a recruitment consultant specializing in careers in SAP services, we asked him some questions, based on his knowledge of the SAP jobs market and the complexities of the candidate process.??

Cealan, please tell us about yourself and your role at IgniteSAP.

As a Delivery Consultant, I network and connect with SAP experts from Consultant to Executive level, helping them realise their career goals.?

My goal in the long run is to fully understand the desires and motivations of the candidates that I speak with, whilst trying to go beyond the traditional recruitment approach. My aim is to take an authentic and consultative approach, focusing on the candidate's motivations and career aspirations and not acting in a transactional manner.?

One of the most enjoyable aspects of my role is building relationships with a variety of people every day. From different SAP skills to international cultures and personal stories, I get to network and keep in touch with so many talented people.?

What tips would you give to SAP consultants to help them stand out in a highly competitive market for SAP roles?

I would encourage Consultants to leverage the power of a big network and a good personal brand. Consulting is a ‘people business’ and whether you are early in your career or looking for a Senior Manager position, an established network of relevant connections can be helpful for recommendations or referrals, setting you apart from others you are competing against. A good personal brand is also invaluable. Linkedin is a powerful tool to highlight your personality, SAP skills, and build relationships with potential employers. On top of this, Consultants should of course focus on improving their skills in high-demand areas, such as SAP S/4HANA or cloud integration. Having a well-presented portfolio that documents completed projects and includes customer testimonials can also give candidates an advantage.??

How do you assist SAP candidates in adapting their resumes and profiles to better reflect the evolving priorities in the SAP job market?

I discuss with candidates their career journey, and the specific project experience which best highlights their achievements and expertise. I also encourage candidates to share examples where they have gone above and beyond in a project. This can produce great insights into the personality and attitude of the candidate and set them apart from others. We also refine their profiles further, to draw attention to specific certifications, industry and process knowledge which are particularly sought-after in today’s market.?

How have widespread digital transformation projects influenced the types of skills and experience clients are seeking in SAP consultants?

The increase in the number of transformations and the pace at which they are to be delivered has focused client demands towards consultants with S/4HANA and Cloud experience. Clients are also now looking for consultants who have the relevant SAP expertise and can also integrate SAP solutions with other enterprise systems.??

What are some of the key issues that SAP candidates face when trying to break into new areas in SAP consulting, like SAP Analytics Cloud or others, and how can they overcome those challenges?

Newer areas like SAP Analytics Cloud often require both technical and business skills. I would encourage candidates to get hands-on experience, even through training projects, on top of certifications that demonstrate their skills in these areas.?While certifications are helpful, demonstrating practical project experience is what employers will look for.?

What do you see as the biggest shifts in SAP career paths as companies increasingly adopt multi-cloud and hybrid cloud strategies?

Multi-cloud and hybrid strategies are producing more cross-functional SAP roles. SAP consultants are now expected to have knowledge of multiple cloud platforms, like AWS, or Google Cloud, along with solid SAP foundations. For SAP career paths more generally, I am seeing a continued shift in candidates prioritising work-life-balance alongside career growth and earnings.?
