Meet the IdeasLab Student Entrepreneurs

In University of Galway IdeasLab we are passionate about supporting our student entrepreneur's creativity, ideas and innovations. We support students from the very beginning of their entrepreneurial journey with dedicated support, training and links into our brilliant community of mentors. This month we are catching up with our student entrepreneurs as they build their businesses and balance college life.

Meet Peter Flannery 爱尔兰国立高威大学 student and founder of Disruptive Digital and read about his entrepreneurial journey.

In 2018 I went back to University of Galway to complete a Diploma in Marketing and while studying this I founded Disruptive Digital in 2019 on a hunch that SME's will undergo a big transformation to Digital Marketing online. This was proven right and was then accelerated by the Covid-19 pandemic which made my start-up flourish. To this date I have worked with 50+ clients across many industries such as Retail, Sport, Food & Drink, Clothing, Tech and E-Commerce, and Disruptive Digital has grown into a leading Digital Marketing Agency in Ireland.

In 2020 at the height of the pandemic I took the opportunity to go back into full-time education studying commerce at University of Galway - J.E. Cairnes School of Business & Economics this combined with trying to scale up my business proved challenging but worthwhile as the skills and experience I was learning in my business was adaptable to my college work.

In second year of Commerce 2021, I approached IdeasLab as I needed a space to work on my business outside of college work. They were more than helpful and not only offered me a chance to work from Ideaslab but gave me the opportunity to work on some exciting projects with them. Aside from this I also had great pleasure in networking with fellow likeminded students and mentoring some students who had interest in starting up a business similar to mine or who needed a hand with Digital Marketing for their start-up.

I am also currently in my final year of a Honours B.Comm degree specialising in Marketing Management in University of Galway, and Disruptive Digital is continuing to grow from strength to strength and I would highly encourage any student with an idea to come forward and get started, being a ‘studentpreneur’ is challenging but definitely the best thing I have ever done.

Starting up and running this successful business for four years has given me exceptional skills such as Business Development, Founder Selling, Brand Management, Entrepreneurial Finance, Digital Marketing Strategy, Social Media Marketing, Web Design (Wordpress, Squarespace, Shopify), Advertising, Content Creation and Marketing Analytics.
