Meet the Hosts - Dec 11th 2024

This week we continue our "Meet the Hosts" series by taking a look at Bristol Myers Squibb UK & Ireland , MSD , 嘉科工程 , 富达 , 美敦力 , and iCRAG Research Ireland Centre for Applied Geosciences . Each of these companies will be accepting interns for the 2025 STInt Programme, which you can apply for now.


Bristol Meyers Squibb

Bristol Myers Squibb is a leading global biopharma company focused on discovering, developing, and delivering innovative medicines for patients with serious diseases in areas including oncology, hematology, immunology, cardiovascular, fibrosis and neuroscience. Our employees work every day to transform patients’ lives through science.

Bristol Myers Squibb was one of the first Pharmaceutical Companies in Ireland, opening its doors with an Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient Plant (API) in Swords, County Dublin in 1964. Many global business services are located in Ireland, including the global headquarters for External Manufacturing in Blanchardstown Corporate Park, which is also the home to Bristol Myers Squibb European Treasury Centre, Commercial Operations, Global Procurement, Global Manufacturing Science & Technology and Global Delivery Solutions. The network of Irish sites also includes a distribution centre in Shannon, County Clare.

Also located in Dublin is one of the company’s internal manufacturing sites, Cruiserath Campus, a state-of-the-art Biologics Campus over 125 acres in size. Originally an Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient (API) site, it received a one-billion-dollar investment in 2016 and is now in commercial manufacture. The campus is the site of release (QP certification) for all finished drug product into the EU and rest of world, along with a Global Biologics Laboratory responsible for release testing for all commercial biologic drug products. An award-winning facility as it currently stands, the Cruiserath Biologics site was designed as a flexible, multi-product manufacturing operation with the manufacturing capacity necessary to meet the growing demand for existing biologics products, as well as expected demand for products currently in development in the Bristol Myers Squibb pipeline.

STInt Intern Role Description?

The ideal STInt intern will be integrated into the Strategy and Business Excellence Team at Bristol Myers Squibb. We have a number of projects such as Door-to-Floor where we are seeking ways to upskill individuals to perform tasks efficiently. These programs are active in the QC Lab and Manufacturing departments, therefore the STInt intern should expect to observe the work in various environments and develop solutions for knowledge transfer.


MSD


Host Introduction

MSD Ireland is one of the country’s leading healthcare companies, having first established here over 50 years ago. In order to understand MSD Ireland, it’s important to get a sense of the Irish pharmaceutical industry and the pivotal role it plays in Ireland’s economy as a whole.

We currently employ approximately 2,700 employees, across six sites in Ballydine, Co Tipperary, Brinny, Co Cork, Carlow, Dunboyne and Dublin and, in addition, operate substantial Human Health and Animal Health businesses.

Significantly our Irish sites manufacture approximately half of MSD’s top twenty products, saving and enhancing lives in over sixty countries around the world.

STEM Teacher Intern Role

This year MSD is offering two STInt internships, likely within the Learning Team Department. The ideal STInt intern will be digitally minded and have strong organizational skills. The Learning Interns will be members of the Learning team, supporting managers and individuals across the site, by providing information in order to promote a high performing organisation. This includes design and delivery of customized training plans for new and existing employees.

As part of the experience, the STInt Interns participate in induction as part of their integration into the team, and be involved in supporting multiple elements of the end to end manufacture of biopharmaceuticals and they will come away with an understanding of the wider roles available to future STEM graduates, the scope of such roles and the longer term career opportunities.

Medtronic in Ireland??

Medtronic has been present in Ireland since 1999, having acquired a cardiovascular business established there since 1982.? Medtronic’s Galway site is a Centre of Excellence for the development and manufacture of a number of the Medtronic’s key medical technologies for the treatment and management of cardiovascular and cardiac rhythm diseases.? Today over 4000+ people are employed in Ireland with most of the company’s employees working at the facility in Parkmore Galway, including over 100 dedicated to research and development.

STEM Teacher Intern Role

We are recruiting two STInt Interns for Medtronic where the successful hire will gain exposure to a wide range of departments. This placement will occur during summer 2025.

STInt Interns will be exposed to the following departments:

  • Research and Development (R&D)
  • Manufacturing/Operations
  • Process Development
  • Quality and?Regulatory Affairs
  • IT and Engineering

Typical duties and responsibilities include the following: ? Provide daily technical support to the department. ? Carry out a project and report progress as agreed by Supervisor/Manager. ? Work as part of the team to achieve goals and objectives as agreed. ? Cross collaboration with other company functions.



iCRAG

Host Introduction

iCRAG is a Research Centre for Applied Geosciences hosted by University College Dublin. We are a team of researchers creating solutions for a sustainable society. We develop innovative science and technologies to better understand the Earth’s past, present, and future and how people are connected to it. We drive research in areas that are critical to society and the economy, including:

  • Sustainable discovery of energy resources and raw materials required for decarbonisation.
  • Securing and protecting groundwater and marine resources.
  • Protecting society from Earth’s hazards such as flooding and landslides.

iCRAG, hosted by UCD, comprises 150 researchers across eight universities and institutions. iCRAG is supported by Research Ireland, Geological Survey Ireland and industry partners.
