The Career:

What is your job title?

My name is Mehka (pronounced Mecca) and I am the creator and host of the CashColorCannabis Podcast.?

How long have you worked in the cannabis industry?

Going on 6 years now

What led you to your career in cannabis?

Chance. I had a conversation with a friend of mine in 2015 about cannabis and legalization. He made mention that he went to a conference and he was the only Black person in the room. I thought that was odd. I also thought it was a good topic to write about. I am a journalist first so when I hear what could be a good story, I jump all over it. What started as a conversation between friends turned into a 6-year experience.?

What's your favorite part of the industry?

Being able to watch it grow. It's a lot like watching hip-hop grow. One day Run-DMC is big, then comes KRS-One. Then before you know, a new wave of acts are hot and setting trends. Same thing with cannabis. Everyday someone new is making their name.?

What's been the biggest challenge thus far in your cannabis career??

The biggest challenge so far has been staying motivated. We are in Atlanta and Georgia is not really a cannabis-friendly state. So to keep the show and website growing and coming up with new ideas can be draining. But it's worth it.?

What's the weirdest job you've ever worked? Did it teach you anything valuable that you use in your career today?

The weirdest job I ever had was selling cologne and perfume on the street. I talk about it a lot. I did it fresh out of college. It was clearly a scam, but I actually learned sales techniques doing that job that I still use today.?

What's one piece of advice you have for those looking to work in the cannabis industry:?

I always say "find how your skill is needed." I knew there was a lane for someone to cover the Black experience in cannabis and I used my journalism background to start a brand.

What's one thing most people don't know about you, that they'd be surprised to learn?

I used to do poetry. I wanted to be a poet and I was really inspired by the Beat Generation.?

What's your favorite method to consume cannabis? Why?

Rolling papers or blunts. It's something about the experience. The breakdown, the rolling up. Something about it is peaceful to me.?

What inspires you?

Knowing that I'm creating something that can live forever.?

The Quirky:?

If you were a color, what color do you best identify with right now? Why?

I don't know. Blue is my favorite color, but I don't know if I want it to be all my life.

If you were reincarnated as an animal, what animal would you hope to become?

I'm coming back as a dog. People love dogs.?

What superpower would you have and why?

I'd be invisible. That's the power I'd need. To be invisible when I need to.?
