Gunnar is a brilliant protein scientist with a wealth of knowledge and expertise in enzymology and structural biology. With a remarkable academic background, a discoverer of how enzymes are regulated allosterically, and a passion for advancing knowledge toward new cures, Gunnar is a true asset to the Eisbach Bio GmbH research team.

Professional Expertise: As the Head of Protein Production and Biophysics, Gunnar leads the ideas, design and production of protein targets and nucleosomes, overseeing the generation of high-quality reagents for our wet-lab assays. His expertise extends to conducting a powerful range of biochemical and biophysical assays, which allow us to comprehensively characterize our cancer targets and their interactions with small molecule inhibitors.

?? Academic Background: Gunnar discovered how specific machines that reorganize our genome are regulated by signalling molecules. For this, he used advanced enzymology and structural biology approaches during his postdoc. His in-depth knowledge now allows him to tackle complex cancer targets and tease out a drug discovery approach that allow us to develop powerful new medicines.

?? Notable Achievement: Gunnar has played a major role in the discovery of the ALC1 auto-inhibition mechanism and - most importantly - also how this repression is relieved by a key molecular trigger. His contributions have shed light on the regulatory mechanisms governing this important cancer target, opening up new therapeutic avenues and laying the foundation for an expansion of this approach to many more cancer indications.
