Meet the Gold Coast Twins Turning the Cleaning Product Industry on Its Head!
Achieving 5900% growth year-on-year is a sizeable achievement at the best of times! But when you manage to do that in the first 18 months of launching, it’s phenomenal! It’s even more amazing when it’s your first business – and you’re still in your twenties.
But that’s exactly what twin brothers Brodie and Roger Cook have done on Queensland’s popular Gold Coast.
Despite both having obtained University degrees in business, launching Lucent Globe was not a commercial decision. Rather, it came from a vision; a genuine desire to make a difference to the planet.
“The business was inspired by our travels around the world, visiting places like Mt Everest and some incredibly remote places,” said Brodie.
“Our kids and future generations need to be able to live here, it would be selfish of us to do nothing.”
Impacts of pollution
“They were all spoiled by pollution and plastic packaging; it was a real wake-up call. If all these incredibly remote and isolated places were seeing the impacts of pollution, then nowhere was safe.
“Our kids and future generations need to be able to live here, it would be selfish of us to do nothing. Our vision is very genuine; we want to make a difference, no matter how small.
“Every single person that we can inspire [to make a change] is one less bottle that finds its way to landfills or our oceans.”
“When starting Lucent Globe, we never had a product in mind. It was always about finding an opportunity to do something good for the environment,” said Roger.
Walking down the cleaning product aisle at a supermarket one day, the brothers quickly discovered the industry they most wanted to disrupt.
Massively wasteful market
“It’s a massively wasteful market that had no suitable alternative. We were met with a sea of bulky plastic bottles and bags, filled with chemical-based ingredients.
“So, when there wasn’t a suitable option for us, we decided to create it ourselves!
“Detergent sheets were identified as the best things to disrupt a massively wasteful market. It took almost a year of research and working with suppliers to make it all happen, to launch in March 2022.”
Bootstrapping the business, the brothers connected with potential customers through Facebook community groups – with great success. More than 100,000 orders were received in 2023.
Lucent Globe now offers a range of great products, including dishwashing and laundry sheets, toilet cleaning, hand soap sheets, and multipurpose sheets.
Passionate about change
But it hasn’t always been easy going. Roger and Brodie used their savings to create just enough stock to kick start the business from a garage on the Gold Coast.
“But this is so much more than a business because it started from an idea and a passion to try and make a change. We are so passionate about change and sustainability, it’s easy to go to work every day when you know and believe you are doing something that contributes to a better future for us all – without as much plastic packaging and harsh ingredients.

“The fact that anyone can make a difference, we’re proof of that. Absolutely no experience and just a desire to make a change.”
Brodie and Roger believe it is important for entrepreneurs and business owners to be ethical.
“It’s easy to go to work every day when you know and believe you are doing something that contributes to a better future for us all.”
“It’s just common sense. Ethical behaviour builds trust with your community and contributes positively to society. It helps create a solid foundation for business, benefitting everyone involved, which leads to a more sustainable and successful operation.
Sustainable products
“We can always do more, no matter how small it might seem. It’s about making progress rather than being perfect. If it’s about progress, then we can move much quicker and jump on board a lot more sustainable products and initiatives.”
The Lucent Globe founders quickly became known as ‘disrupters’ in Australian business – a label with which they are quite comfortable.
“It’s accurate. We have come from a place with a plan that requires massive disruption to make a huge change.
“People have been extremely receptive to our products because it does shake up the current market. The world has been washing dishes and clothes the same way with these harmful products for decades and we’re here starting a conversation on why that might not be the way forward.”
In just the same way they scaled Mount Everest, Brodie and Roger are now planning to scale Lucent Globe to replace traditional home cleaning products in Australia and around the world.
“We’ve got an exciting product roadmap over the next few months with some exciting new products,” they told Coast to Coast Australia.
Whatever these two young Aussie entrepreneurs are planning, you just know it’s going to be a success!
“We have come from a place with a plan that requires massive disruption to make a huge change.”
