Get to Know Anthony

The moment I knew I wanted to be a lawyer: I had initially intended to go to medical school.?However, I decided partway through undergrad that I wanted a change. I was a physics major and went to one of my professors to ask what other avenues I could take with my eventual physics degree.?He handed me a physics magazine that had an article about the America Invents Act and suggested that I look into patent law.?I researched it and decided that it would be a good path for me.?I then started the prep work for going to law school.

How I chose my area(s) of practice: I wanted to use my physics degree but not be in a lab. Patent law was the answer to that and has given me the opportunity to be at the forefront of technological developments while simultaneously helping inventors protect their rights.

My advice for an associate who wants to make partner: My advice is to get your name known to your peers. As an associate, I made it a point to contact as many partners as I could and to let them know that I was eager to help.?This has led to me having a steady workflow for years and to be able to work in fields both within my comfort zone and outside of it to expand upon my practice.

A legal trend I'm keeping an eye on: I have recently seen an uptick in AI-related patent filings. AI appears right now to be at the forefront of technology, and it is very interesting to see how inventors are trying to incorporate aspects of it into their inventions.

A hobby or activity that helps me unwind: I enjoy camping and have been doing it my entire life. My father was an Eagle Scout and always wanted my brother and I to appreciate the outdoors.?Sitting by a campfire at night and listening to the sounds of nature helps me unwind.?However, after melting several pairs of shoes, I should probably keep my feet farther away from the campfire, but I probably won’t.

My favorite local spot to bring a client: I have enjoyed bringing people to Sapore Italiano in Cape May, NJ. The food and ambiance are excellent and conducive to productive discussions. However, a lot of the clients that I work with are scientists and researchers who very much want to show the products of their work.?Because of this, rather than bringing clients to local spots, I have found it beneficial to visit their laboratories, factories, and research centers.

A recent travel experience that left a lasting impression: I recently attended Oktoberfest in Wildwood, NJ, and finally won the Philadelphia Eagles Sunny seagull that I have been trying to win for over a year. Then the Eagles won the next day, so it must have brought me good luck. I also got to take my 1-year-old daughter on the carousel, and she had a blast.

A local event I never miss: My family and I love attending the annual specialty exhibit at the Franklin Institute in Philadelphia.

A mentor who significantly impacted my career and why: My physics professor Dr. Ochoa, who is the reason why I have the career that I have now, because he was the one who saw me struggling to find what to do with my life and steered me toward the legal field.

An organization or initiative I support and why: I support the Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy Syndrome Association (RSDSA), which provides support and education to those affected by CRPS/RSD and their families.?CRPS/RSD is one of the most painful, chronic incurable conditions. My father suffered from debilitating, full-body CRPS/RSD for 19 years until his death.

My philosophy on client service: I want clients to know that they have my attention and that they are being listened to. Clients come to you for your expertise and support, and if they feel brushed aside, they will not build a report with you. Because of this, my philosophy on client service is: be kind, be understanding, be personable, and be accessible.
