Jennifer Stojkovic is a long way from her roots in rural Canada, where she grew up surrounded by farms and ranches. Life has a way, though, of bringing you back home. While she’s not in Canada, Stojkovic is a force in the food tech industry, inspired by her childhood and passion for clean eating to help other women break into the industry.
After leaving her job as a tech industry lobbyist, Stojkovic started a community in San Francisco of 250 women interested in food tech, a field focusing on creating new technologies to grow food more sustainably. That community is now a global platform serving more than 40,000 professionals with access to mentors, programming and a pitch competition for a chance to win seed money.
In her #BusinessReimagined article — a series focused on entrepreneurs’ toughest challenges — Stojkovic shares how she came to be a founder and her best advice for those presenting at a pitch competition. Hint: It’s less about your business and more about you.
What was the inspiration behind your business? Have you pitched at a competition before, and if so, what advice do you have for others looking to do the same?
