In this exclusive “Meet the Enablonians” interview, Shane discusses how he turned his passion for the EHS (Environment, Health, and Safety) field into a successful career and will share his insights on how to make it as a marketer.

What led you to develop an interest in environmental, health, and safety work??

I’ve been captivated by the potential of EHS ever since I started my career. It began when the company I was working for was acquired by a competitor of Enablon, exposing me to the incredible contribution EHS companies such as Enablon make in preserving and protecting our planet. Becoming part of that cause became my goal, and in 2011, I made it a reality by joining Enablon—the leading EHS software provider.

It was my goal to eventually work for the leader in EHS software, which I achieved when I joined Enablon in 2011.?

What are some of the challenges you faced when joining Enablon??

When I started as Manager of Market Development, I found myself in a quickly growing tech start-up with unusual and, in some cases, almost non-existent sales processes. It was like the “Wild West” needing to be tamed. Taking on this challenge, I worked hard to build our processes. After four years, I was promoted to Global Director of Inside Sales; two years later I was appointed VP Marketing & Demand Generation — a highly strategic position that has set me up for continued growth and success within the business.

What is your (teams) greatest achievement?

Our company’s greatest achievement is undeniably the work we do towards promoting global health and safety. As a software development firm, we specialize in creating software solutions to help protect the lives of those around us, especially during times when the need for such protection is at its highest. During the COVID-19 pandemic, our software was used by numerous companies to ensure their workers were following proper health measures and protocols, as well as tracking infection cases.

What traits do you think are essential for success, and what values does Enablon prioritize?

Passion, hard work, and respect for others are essential traits for success. At Enablon, these values are held to the highest standard. Our mission is to help large businesses operate sustainably and protect the environment for future generations—a mission that reflects my own values, which were instilled in me by my mom who has always been passionate about keeping our planet healthy.

Working with Enablon allows me to make a meaningful contribution towards creating a better world by participating in sustainability initiatives that go beyond being trendy or fashionable. Doing this inspiring work is far more rewarding than anything else I’ve ever done, and I am proud to be part of an extraordinary team that shares the same enthusiasm and drive to make a difference!

What are your top tips for people starting their marketing careers in a fast-growing software company??

With the right mindset and determination, there is no limit to what we can achieve! I started my career at Enablon as a young professional with a small team, and I moved my way up one step at a time.

Building relationships has been a key part of my success in this industry, and I strongly recommend that others focus on this often-overlooked activity as well. By making colleagues, analysts, and customers feel valued and appreciated, you have the ability to create meaningful connections that will help you understand their needs and goals.

I believe that each member of the Marketing Team has huge growth potential at Wolters Kluwer if they are willing to invest their time, energy, and carve out a clear vision for what they want to achieve. Success is within their reach!
