Meet Emilie: Experienced Recruiter and Enthusiastic Community Connector and Coach

A few weeks ago, I found myself at TechBBQ in Copenhagen, diving deep into delicious fried chicken and conversation with a collection of badass women. Amidst the chatter and trying to understand Danish numbers, I met Emilie—a Frenchie living in Malm? with an intriguing journey awaiting discovery.?

With her being open to work, I explained the concept of this project Six Degrees of Separation from an Awesome Job and asked if she would be up to be featured.? She said yes so I’m excited to let you all into what I’ve learned about her.?

Meet Emilie Pain (and Angel!)

The Backstory:?

Emilie has worn many hats, spanning across 8 countries, from the streets of Paris to the vibrant energies of Peru. With an MA in International Management from EDHEC Business School and over 8 years of hands-on experience in recruitment across Europe, her story screams versatility. Alongside, she's a fully accredited Personal Development Coach and Energy Therapist, diving into career development, spiritual exploration, and even tackling stress.

Emilie found herself at a crossroads during 麦肯锡 restructuring. Instead of dwelling, she took the time to go on her honeymoon and nurture her entrepreneurial spirit, creating a startup in the holistic medicine space with Minc’s program.?

Passion and Drive:?

Believe it or not, Emilie stumbled into her career. Originally dreaming of hotel management, she shifted lanes, opting for a role that was bustling with life and revolved around people. She found joy in guiding individuals through the sometimes treacherous path of job hunting and the rewarding experience of fitting someone into a team like a puzzle piece.

A Project Close to the Heart:

Imagine this: Emilie steps into a company where there are no existing People & Culture team members. No processes, no strategies, just a big open space to build something great. And that’s exactly what she did!

In less than a year, Emilie did a bunch of impressive things. She didn’t just do a job; she created the pathway for it. She hired 5 techy people, took care of 3 visa processes, and helped put a new HR system in place.

Emilie was more than a team member here; she was the whole team! She didn’t just find her way; she paved it, building, creating, and making things happen all on her own. And that’s something truly special about her journey. It’s simple, it's straightforward, it’s Emilie making things happen wherever she goes

The Power of Connections: Emilie is no stranger to the magic of networking. For her, every handshake, every shared laugh over coffee, and every exchange of business cards is a step towards unlocking potential. Emilie recalls how, through serendipity, a casual conversation with a CEO during a meditation workshop evolved into a fascinating job opportunity. Her recruitment journey itself is a testament to her adeptness at connecting the dots. She fondly recounts managing 3000 applications and hiring 81 entrepreneurs for an Antler cohort in just 4 months, all while juggling two part-time courses.

Yet, her approach to networking is refreshingly candid. It's not just about leveraging contacts for career gains. It’s about authenticity, bringing her trademark blend of honesty and humour to every interaction. As someone who’s honed her skills in Personal Development Coaching, NLP, and Effective Listening, Emilie harnesses these strengths to forge genuine relationships that often transcend the professional realm.

The Future:?

The difficult and impossible question I ask is “Where do you see yourself in 5 years”

Oh, to predict the unpredictable!?

She thought for a bit and then said, "Well, I hope I'll be doing talent advisory, community management, and coaching. I'd also love it if my medicine business is doing well. And, who knows? I might write a book, study more, or even fix up an old house. I like to dream big."

Emilie Shares: Wisdom for Newbies in the Field

Me: "Emilie, with your vast experience in recruitment, there must be some golden advice you'd give to those just starting out. What would it be?"

Emilie: "You know, if I were to guide someone new, I'd say start with agency recruitment. It gives you hands-on learning and a real sense of urgency that's different from internal recruitment. And remember, in this field, when one door closes, don’t be disheartened. There's always another way. Sometimes, it's through a window you never expected to open!"

A Dream Coffee Date: Emilie Chooses Jane Austen

I always enjoy asking people who they'd choose to have a coffee or a "fika" (a Swedish coffee break) with if they could pick anyone.
