Meet the Editor

It is a pleasure to introduce you to one of our incredible editors, Melanie Miles ! We are excited to have Melanie on our team and look forward to all of their incredible work.

  • What motivated you to join Spheres of Influence?

I've been following Spheres for a couple of years and I love the work. It brings so many things to my attention that I don't see in my usual western media circuit. Since I also love editing, I figured I would try to combine the two and I'm happy that worked out!

  • What have you gained from the role?

I've only been with Spheres for a couple of months and I've already met so many great people from different countries and backgrounds. It's been such a delight working with such a diverse team.

  • What is your favourite article to date, and why?

Though it is not an article that I worked on, my favorite article to date is Jonathan Chan's article on housing in Singapore. It is such a succinct overview of the value of dense, affordable housing, which is a huge passion of mine. I truly believe that it could solve a lot of the world's problems.

  • What do you want to work on most as part of Spheres of Influence?

I'm most interested in pieces that recontextualize the world we live in. Whether that's dealing with the way we talk about immigration, drug use, or the damaging prevalence of grass lawns, I am always eager to take part in dialogue about what we could be doing better as a species.

  • What’s one thing not many people know about you?

Not many people know that I was actively raised on three different religions (Buddhism, Christianity, and Islam). It has made me vaguely agnostic and I wouldn't change it for anything!
