Meet Edit Bekesi: our new talent acquisition leader
Edit Bekesi joined Star a few months ago as our Global Head of Talent Acquisition. With 24 years of experience, she has worked for a variety of industries and companies of all sizes, managing teams located around the world including Hungary, Romania, Ukraine, Austria, Poland, Italy, India and the UK.?
Meet Edit and get to know what she’s fired up about in this short interview:?
What kind of challenges do you see in the talent acquisition field right now??
Online job boards and applications have been excellent for increasing access to a greater range of candidates. But now, we often have a quantity over quality issue. For many years now, recruiters have had to be “programmers” and very skilled in technology to find and attract the right people. The markets (in all industries and countries) are more candidate-driven and tighter than ever before. With so much complexity, the best recruiting strategy right now is focusing on retention.
What brought you to Star?
The task itself. I am a builder and change-maker. It was very clear during my interview that Star does not only “tolerate” change but fully supports improvements. Star sees recruiting and my role as a strategic partner and that’s essential for setting the stage for success.?
It’s an open culture where everyone can bring their best to work. Everybody’s voice is heard no matter how bold their idea is. Finally, we are truly global and flexible. I am in Hungary, where the company had no presence previously. Hiring for my position here shows exactly the kind of flexibility Star has—not only in terms of location but working conditions. We’re fully remote and inclusive of different cultures.?
What’s your work day look like??
There’s no such thing as an average day. One thing I like about Star is our flexibility. I’m a bad sleeper and often inspired to prepare presentations or send emails in the middle of the night or on weekends. Don’t worry, I don’t expect any replies! But for someone like me, these quieter times are great for creativity.?
What are some of your top hobbies and interests??
I love traveling and have had the privilege of visiting 37 countries. Each is unique and amazing. Some I remember for the excellent food, others for their architecture, nature, people or the climate. This is exactly why I like visiting new places every time I travel—to gain new experiences and learn about new cultures.
I also enjoy interior design and renovating, I’m never short of ideas for change. I live in a house with a beautiful garden just outside Budapest.?

Then, I wouldn’t exactly call this a hobby, but I am a cat magnet. From time to time, I find kittens around my home, so I foster them and find them forever homes. 4 years ago, 3 cats also adopted me!???
What’s the most thrilling thing you’ve ever done??
I’m afraid of heights, so the wildest thing I ever did was parasail. It was a blast, but sometimes I wonder what I was thinking!?
What’s one essential but not obvious thing you’d like people to know about you??
I’m an introvert. When it comes to work, I’ll go to events and happily get up on stage and talk to 1000 people. At the same time, I might leave a party early if I don’t know anybody because I’m not good at making small talk. It’s a balance that has worked well for me. Also, I’m always cold! 25C and above is when I’m happiest. Hot countries and beach holidays are my slice of paradise.?
Star continues to grow rapidly. What do you look for in candidates interested in joining the company??
Potential and cultural fit. You can teach skills, but you can’t teach behavior. We’re looking for passionate, driven and well-rounded people. We don’t compromise on our culture, so show us your best self and why you’re excited about joining our Crew.?
What secret tips can you share to help people nail their interview process??
Listen, but ask a lot of questions. Interviewing is a two-way street. You’re making a big change in your life: a new company, new role and culture. You need to learn about the company, not just the technology, business and projects. Use this time to ask questions — you should have a lot! It’s also another way for us to get to know you, so don’t miss out on this opportunity.?
