Dr. Jeff Kaufman is RD LifeSciences' expert in nutritional feed additives and animal science, making invaluable contributions to our scientific advancements.

Educational Journey

Dr. Kaufman holds a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Purdue University, a Master of Science in Animal Science with a Minor in Statistics from The University of Tennessee, and a Doctor of Philosophy in Animal Science from The University of Tennessee, specializing in Dairy Nutritional Physiology and Immunology. His Master’s thesis was “Effect of Varying Rumen Degradable and Undegradable Protein on Milk Production and Nitrogen Efficiency in Lactating Dairy Cows under Summer Conditions ”. His dissertation was “Nutritional Strategies to Improve Utilization of Nutrients in Lactating Dairy Cows Exposed to Heat Stress ”. His academic achievements have equipped him with a robust animal science and nutrition foundation. Also, Dr. Kaufman completed leadership and project management training, which provided him with the knowledge and tools for effectively leading teams in research and technical services.

Extensive Research Experience

Dr. Kaufman has 10 publications in reputable journals that cover heat stress, protein metabolism, energy metabolism, amino acid nutrition, immunology, and gut health in lactating dairy cows and calves. After five years of experience as a nutritionist and researcher in the animal feed and nutrition industry, Dr. Kaufman has a strong background in research methodologies, interpretation, and application in dairy, beef, swine, and poultry. His expertise provides value when collaborating with a global team of scientists to develop and market innovative nutritional feed additives for livestock and poultry. This collaboration fosters innovation and effective solutions for animal nutrition.

His Role at RD LifeSciences

As the Director of Research and Product Development, Dr. Kaufman focuses on leading research studies, leading the process and ideation of product development, providing technical expertise for marketing and sales, and contributing toward the leadership and direction of RD LifeSciences’ future. His role is crucial in advancing our understanding and application of nutritional feed additives that enhance the health and productivity of livestock and poultry and provide value to RD LifeSciences’ customers.

The most exciting part of his job is the opportunity to develop new products and applications that can positively impact animal health and nutrition. What drives Dr. Kaufman’s passion for his work? "This profession keeps me close to working with and understanding animals, the food industry, and nutrition while allowing me to be creative and constantly learning. I am passionate about the people in the farming industry who care about animals' health, welfare, and nutrition because it is an area where true passions and hard work intersect."

Greatest Accomplishment

One of Dr. Kaufman’s most significant career accomplishments is completing his PhD in Animal Science. Additionally, he takes pride and ownership in developing and mentoring team members to succeed in their roles, contributing to the overall success of RD LifeSciences. Lastly, he has contributed toward scientific advancement with around 250 reported citations of this research.
