Meet the Director: Liam Carr

Liam Carr has?been at Carrs Pasties?his whole life,?he’s worked in the bakery?making the products, delivered the pasties to parties?all around Bolton,?and taken orders on the phones.?He knows the bakery and the machines like the back of his hand.?Now,?he?works closely with the sales team to build new relationships with trade customers as well as?popping in and out?of?the?bakery still to ensure?the?pasties are?as good as they’ve always been.?

?What do you do?at Carrs Pasties??

I work with my brothers?Matthew and Joe?which is ridiculous and exhausting,?but mostly fun.?We set the strategy and?trust?the rest of the team to get on with it.?

?What’s the best part of your job??

Being around all the people who are making the business grow.?Some of them I’ve known for?over 20 years.?

?What’s the hardest part of running a family business?

Making decisions that could change the lives of our staff and their families. Luckily,?I have my brothers to help me with those decisions.?

What are your favourite Carrs Pasties products?

The meat and potato pasties because it’s what our family grew up on, but I like whist pies because they remind me of my dad, he would eat one every morning. These are our traditional products,?so I chose these mainly for nostalgia…

What’s one of your favourite memories of Carrs Pasties??

We used to cheer when the last pasty came off the end of the?machine?belt at the end of the year and then we’d go and have a big party. I used to work in?the factory,?and I?still?miss?working down there with everyone, but it’s great to see the atmosphere I used to love is still the same.?

Why do you?love the Bolton community?

Boltonians have a special something that the rest of the world can’t replicate, it’s honesty and earnestness that is something to be proud of.?

What did you do before Carrs Pasties??

I went to a performing arts college?where I did?musical performing arts, but mainly,?I?just had a good time?there. I worked in music production and recording?studios too.?

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given??

My?Uncle?David used to say:?‘Don’t believe anything they tell you, and only half of what you see,?and you won’t go far wrong’.?

What’s something in the future that you’re excited for??

I don’t think that far ahead, but?I’m going to have pork chops tonight for tea.?

What advice would you give someone taking over a family business??

It’s like anything with family, sometimes you have to admit that you’re wrong,?even when you’re right.?

What’s something you think will happen in the bakery industry in the next?10?years??

I think the industry will start working?towards growing genetically modified meat, or another?meat substitute.

When you’re not working, what are you doing?

I’m mainly at home with the kids?or I’m?messing about with the dad band.?
