What Do I Do in Dell?
A lot of people ask me lately: "Hey Alex, what is that you actually do in Dell? what is a CST?". Well let me tell you: we're a team of highly trained experts that live and breath tech, to help YOU, our customer, enjoy it as much as we do.
Before I joined Dell I spent a decade in IT, mostly as a decision maker. When I wanted an IT solution, I always went trough the same rough customer boot camp: ask Google > ask other IT decision makers > ask the channel > ask the vendor. When I thought I found what I wanted, I did a POC (proof of concept, a demonstration to verify the solution's potential feasibility for real-world application) which in many cases did not deliver and turned out to be what I wanted rather than what I needed. That happened because somewhere down the road I was derailed by an "expert" that pointed me towards the wrong solution or assured me of something that the POC proved could not be done.
Dell's global CST (Client Solutions Technologists) team, is a technical Pre-Sale resource tasked with helping YOU, our customer, to get a solution tailored for your specific workforce requirements. Not something that works for someone else who you sound like, not something that looks as if its datasheet mentions something you want, and definitely not something that looks like what you want. We get you what you need. Think of the CSTs as a technical commando unit.
We're not SALES, we're SEALS - Solutions Experts And LoB Specialists(LoB=Line of Business for example Precision mobile\fixed workstations). Communication with sales engineers usually gets you around prices and data sheets. When you need to go deeper, that's when we get into action. While a sales engineer will tell you about Dell Command Suite tool set for low level management of your endpoints' around the office, a CST will show you exactly which tool will easily update the BIOS password on all your Dell OptiPlex, Latitude and Precisions easily in your network. A CST will be happily discuss the differences between various classes of Dell HDD vs. SSD, RAM vs. ROM, PCI vs. PCIe, AHCI vs. NVMe, Optane vs. CMS, standard vs. ECC memory, Xeon vs. i9-9900K, Overclocking vs. Turbo Boost, Desktop vs. Workstation, GeForce vs. Quadro, SLI vs. NVLink, CUDA vs. OpenCL, BIOS vs. UEFI, Software Full Disk Encryption vs. SED, Secure Boot vs. Device Guard, Dell Data Security vs. Bitlocker, Computational vs. Interactive workloads and so on. In case a scenario requires an even deeper engineering expertise, come hell or high water we get you the answers you need to hear, rather than the answers you want to hear.
How do we do it? by overcoming technical obstacles, supporting core sales teams and customers like YOU with deeper technical expertise around Dell's full commercial Client Solutions portfolio. If you're looking for one of these client solutions, and you need to have a deeper tech discussion, ask to speak to a CST:

When not traveling for customer meetings, we work very closely with Client Solutions Product Group teams, ensuring that YOUR Point of View is well-represented in all product & solution groups' discussions. We influence a broad spectrum of stakeholders and develop mutually beneficial strategic alliances with customers like yourself.
