Meet CTW’s Game Planner for Italy, Elena Trionfini
Path to CTW
This is our series on the team working at CTW.
It’s our pleasure to introduce a true original, our Elena. She’s growing our Italian business the Italian way: with passion!
Tell us a little about yourself.
Well, I’m from Italy, a small town called Mirandola. It’s kind of in the middle between Modena, Bologna, and Verona. Verona is where Romeo and Juliet were supposed to be from! Each of those cities is about an hour away.
There’s not much in Mirandola to be honest. We’re famous for our biomedical industry but that’s about it. It’s really a typical Italian countryside town. If you want a peach or an apple, you can literally walk up to a tree in your orchard and just pick it off.
When I was in school, my family traveled around Europe a lot. I spent a few weeks here and there doing language exchanges, which got me curious about living overseas. So when I graduated from high school, I’d already decided to move to Japan.
Why did you choose Tokyo?
One of the language exchanges I did was in Tokyo. I became good friends with the family and I really loved the feeling of being in the world’s biggest city. People find Tokyo suffocating, but you can say the same about living in a small town. You might not have thousands of people crowding you wherever you go, but everyone knows you. If you get into an argument or do something silly, the whole town knows about it and gossips.
In Tokyo, it’s nice that you can be surrounded by people and still be anonymous. There’s so much to see and do. I love exploring all the little cafes, then dragging my friends to them so we can enjoy the atmosphere and vibes of a new place. I’m a bit of an introvert, but of course, I still like hanging out with people too. Tokyo lets you find that balance. You can have a perfect mix of socializing and privacy.
How did you come to be a game planner?
When I came here I was deciding between going to university or studying Japanese at a language school. But I like living the language, rather than just studying it, so I ended up in a professional training college. It was specific to video game graphics and character design and it was such a fun experience. We covered everything about character design from personality, look, planning, and we explored different 2D and 3D visual elements. I prefer making 2D characters but I liked the challenge of doing something new.
So I was primed when I got this job. I didn’t have any previous work experience but my mind was already in the video game space. There’s still a lot of things to learn, both about business and Japan. I find it all fascinating and sometimes weird. But as we get bigger, I’m excited about growing as a person and seeing how far we can go.

So you started your career at CTW. How has it been so far?
Great! It's my first job. I don't know if it's like this in other companies. Communicating with the people in the game ops teams is so easy! We're all from different backgrounds and different countries. But we all speak our minds and get along so well.
Outside of our teams, it's a little more challenging. We’ve grown so much in the last year that many people are still figuring out how to cooperate outside of their division. Since we’re continuing to grow really fast, and everyone is concentrating on managing that growth and doing their work, we need to make stronger connections between teams before we're a much bigger company. It's a challenge.
Where do you see yourself in the next few years?
Well, I believe in what we say: We’re out to change the world. That change doesn’t have to be big, just positive. I’d also like to learn to be a good leader. I’d like to see what we can do in the Italian market and what kinds of games and changes we can make in that market. It’s personal to me since I was the first one bringing our games to Italy. I’m excited about our projects and the big changes coming in the future as we continue to grow!
