??Tell us about your career at Mark’s.
In 2006, Mark’s opened Store 530 in Marystown, Newfoundland and Labrador and I was the first Store General Manager (SGM) of the store. I got the opportunity to hire an Assistant Manager and the first full team of our Marystown location, and we quickly became the place to get quality clothing in our area.
For the next 16 years, I was able to contribute to growing the Mark’s brand in Eastern Canada. Even though Marystown was in a small remote location, I felt I was always supported by the members of every department within Mark’s. Over the years, I was given many opportunities to develop leadership skills, and advance my expertise in retail management. I have always felt as if I was a recognized team member and my opinions mattered.
In 2023, I was promoted to District Manager (DM) for Newfoundland and Labrador and Central Nova Scotia. Now, I get to share my experiences with other SGMs and store teams to, “give freely of my time to provide advice, lead and support the people around me so they can become the best versions of themselves and be contributing members of their community” – My Life’s Purpose.
?? How do you contribute to Making Life in Canada better?
In eastern Canada, we see all seasons, and I mean, in one day! So, to make life in Canada better I know that it is crucial that I know our products for our customers. Whether they need to protect our offshore oil worker in stormy weather, keep a hydro utility worker safe in appropriate footwear, or even just to keep rain and wind on the outside of a family's outdoor adventurers.
I also have the opportunity as an employee of Canadian Tire Corporation to participate in programs like Jumpstart. I can directly impact and see the benefits it provides to children in need of assistance within my own community, and I also get to give back to my community through volunteering within Canadian Tire Jumpstart Charities .
Finally, our loyalty program Triangle Rewards, allows me the opportunity to participate in rewarding our customers who choose to shop with us. I get great joy when telling customers about all the Canadian Tire money they can earn and in today's economy when so many are careful with how they spend their money, it's another way we are helping to keep Canadians Warmer, Drier, Safer and More Comfortable for life in Canada.

??What is it about Mark’s that excites you to come to work each day?
As a District Manager, I have had the pleasure of meeting and working with staff who show up every day happy to be making a difference in the lives of the customers we serve. It’s seeing the smiles on the faces as staff interact with customers and make a connection that makes them want to come back and shop with us again. It's also helping teams who may be struggling in a particular area and working together to find solutions and then being able to celebrate when change big or small happen within my district.? ?
??What have you learned throughout your time with Mark’s?
The one thing that stands out to me the most from my time with Mark’s is that your learning journey never stops, and that change must happen for us to grow and continue to be successful.
Mark's and my team, have also taught me that you don’t have to have all the answers, because we are surrounded by a great team, and everyone has the same passion and the willingness to help and support each other #StrongerTogether.
