Meet the Cathedral Thinking: A New Take on Earth Day

Meet Cathedral Thinking

How are you celebrating Earth Day today? I'm heading to Livingston, Montana to speak (and listen to) elementary school students and then be interviewed by high schoolers from the Park High Green Initiative. I'm honored to partner with the Park County Environmental Council and the Montana Chapter of Moms Clean Air Force again this year. If you're a local, please join me at the iconic Elk River Books at 6 pm tonight.?I'll be talking with Gen Z about plastic pollution, of course, but also Day 31 of 60 Days to a Greener Life - entitled "Embrace Cathedral Thinking" to provide a new perspective on the relevance of Earth Day.

This concept refers to the idea that cathedrals took centuries to build. These works were constructed for future generations. What future are WE building for our loved ones? We are the architects of the future. It could be beautiful, green, and just. It's up to us. Everyone is welcome and needed in this movement. We need your creativity and best thinking to be the awesome ancestors our loved ones deserve.

BOOK TOUR HIGHLIGHTS

What a joy to celebrate the launch of 60 Days to a Greener Life these past two weeks. Check out the highlights from DC, Takoma Park, Bozeman, and LA. It was a special thrill to speak at UTA (United Talent Agency) in Beverly Hills with actor and climate advocate Calum Worthy, Gen Z activist, artist, and OneGreenThing board member Maya Penn , and general manager of LA's Exposition Park Andrea Ambriz . Thanks to my dear friend René Jones of United Talent Agency and the UTA Foundation and to all my friends around the country who've shown up to support this fun, accessible, bite-sized day reader.

EARTH DAY MUSINGS

?What I'm reading

  • ?Ministry of the Future by Kim Stanley Robinson -diving back into this complex, engaging read. I especially love the concept of a "Ministry for Future Generations."
  • Where to Begin by Cleo Wade. This book of poetry and mini-essays speaks to me, including this quote:

?Start by doing what you can with what you've got, where you are, and in your own way. We don't have to be heroes, wear a uniform, call ourselves activists, or get elected to participate. We just have to be brave enough to care.

What I'm eating

??What I'm watching

  • ?The Gilded Age. Escapist TV that's all about the costume design. Don't judge. LOL!

??My favorite #onegreenthings

  • Writing to the Biden Administration to allow the historic youth climate action lawsuit Juliana v. United States to move forward. (It took less than 5 minutes.) You can support Our Children's Trust, too. Here's how.
  • Making a commitment to walk outside every day without my phone- even for 5 to 10 minutes.
  • Wearing my Cariuma green sneakers. They make me smile.

Reach out and let me know what you're doing for Earth Day - and how your daily practice of sustainability can help lay the foundation a culture shift toward a greener, healthier, more just future.

I walk softly with the land to understand its "landguage" and the poems and songs come, so I sing with Nature and discover how my true nature is Nature. Like Wind I blow, Like Water I flow, Like Fire I Consume and Radiate, Like Earth I Sustain and Cultivate... My Heart beats in Rythm with this Creative Force, as I carry a Currency of infinite source.:).:)
